Job description

Job Introduction

Do you have a caring nature? Are you looking to make a difference to people's lives? Do you want to work in an environment where no two days are the same? Are you flexible with your working hours? Can you see yourself providing care to adults who need your support?

If you have answered a big YES to these questions we would love to hear from you.

At Turning Point, we support people with Learning Disabilities across England.

As a Support Worker, you will make a real difference to residents' lives as you improve their daily living skills. Passionate about people, you will enjoy the scope and support to enhance your own life and career too, as you gain the experience and training you need to progress with us.

Where will I be working?

We are providing support for adults with learning disabilities and physical disabilities in Castleford and you will be part of a small team supporting two people within their own homes and local community.

You will be required to provide person-centred support in all aspects of their lives, including managing their home, some personal care, maintaining contact with other important people in their lives, and accessing their local community facilities such as shops, banks, and health care services. The individuals that we support have some cognitive and sensory impairments. We tailor our services to enable people to be as independent as possible.

We have a new gentleman joining our family who will need support staying safe in the community, he enjoys getting out and about doing things he loves, which includes socialising with friends, karaoke and watching the rugby.

We use a digital social care record system, to support daily recording, which will make your day-to-day tasks easier and allows you to spend more time with the People We Support. Some aspects of this role will involve lone working.

Training and Development

We offer training to all those who want to develop their skills and competencies not just in the care sector but in other areas too.

  • Level 2 and 3 Lead Adult Care Worker
  • Level 3 Operational Team Leader

Please note training will be offered after your probation period ends which is 6 months. Once you begin your training with us you will have your own coach who will support you through your programme.

Shift Patterns

This is a 24 hour service and will require the flexibility to work a shift pattern that includes evenings, weekends, and bank holidays in turn as part of a team.  As a person-centred provision, we will look to develop shift patterns around the support needs of the people being supported, and therefore it’s unlikely that there will be a ‘standard’ shift time, and it’s likely that the pattern of work will evolve as people’s lives evolve.

Please note that the shifts may vary.

Role Responsibility

This is a hands-on job in which no two days are the same. Your duties will include:

  • promoting the independence of people we support
  • supporting a full range of daily activities including cleaning and cooking, days out or going away on holiday
  • arranging activities in the home and in the local community
  • developing individual’s life skills and personal interests
  • helping individual’s to stay safe and healthy
  • assisting with personal care needs
  • manual handling if required
  • supporting people with medication
  • Ensuring record keeping is maintained to the required standard at all times and contributing to service monitoring requirements.
