Managing Quantity Surveyor
Definition:
The person who is responsible for supervising, managing, and advising on the financial and contractual aspects of multiple construction projects. The individual will work across the wider commercial, estimating and buying departments.
- Provide commercial support to the project team,
- Maintaining commercial information and ensuring compliance with contractual requirements.
- Ensure robust, accurate and timely cost and value reporting at both project and business unit level
- Ensure accurate cash flow reporting
- Carry out cost management including forecasting
- Update the monthly CVR, cost and commercial plans and have accountability, along with the project team for the commercial performance and strategy
- Help ensure that commercial processes are adhered to across the business unit
- Actively seek to improve processes and procedures
- Have a good understanding of the processes and procedures and assist in their development and improvement
- Ensure that any main contracts entered into have terms and conditions that are appropriate for Coffey Construction, with commercial risks identified.
- Ensure that the supply chain is engaged appropriately with the correct contract terms and conditions
- Ensure that good client relationships are fostered.
- Be responsible for subcontract letting, negotiation and financial accounting
- Effectively assist in managing the commercial team, including cost clerks and commercial support staff
- Ensure effective interaction between the commercial team and the operational site teams
- Supervise and mentor Quantity Surveyors
- Ability to challenge resources and costs
- Maintaining deadlines in line with monthly commercial calendar
- Interprets/understands the respective obligations, responsibilities and liabilities of the parties to the contract, and provides advice/guidance to the site team, as appropriate.
- To be aware of and understand what documents comprise the contract, and be fully briefed on the contract estimate, including settlement adjustments.
- Responsible, with the Contract Manager, for ensuring that all site staff adhere to agreed site procedures and reporting systems.
- Responsible, with the Contract Manager, for the preparation and production of all agreed reports to predetermined deadlines.
- Responsible, with the Contract Manager, for the smooth administration of the contract, from start-up through to final account.
- Responsible, with the Contract Manager, for archiving all essential project documentation.
- Responsible, with the Project Manager, for delivering the project to the Client's satisfaction.
- Responsible for delegating/allocating Quantity Surveying tasks to Quantity Surveyors, setting objectives and monitoring their progress.
- Attends site meetings and contributes to the resolution of commercial, contractual and construction problems.
- To be aware of and protect the Company's commercial interests by pursuing prompt payment for work executed.
- To be aware of and preserve the Company's good name in dealings with the Client, our suppliers and the public at large.
- Responsible for the production of all necessary documentation in relation to the resolution of problems; be they commercial, contractual or construction related issues.
- Perform commercial duties as directed by Commercial Manager and Ops Director or other Senior Management.
About You
Requirements:
- HND/degree in Quantity Surveying, or equivalent
- Previous experience of the civil engineering industry
- Familiarity with ICE/NEC forms of contract and knowledge of current Construction Law
- Extensive experience in commercial management and procurement of subcontractors, including chairing regular meetings, measurement and control cycle, certificates and accruals calculations
- Ability to demonstrate a good knowledge of monthly reporting and earned value analysis
- Excellent team player whilst also holding the ability to work independently on own initiative
- Excellent time management skills, with ability to work to tight deadlines.
- Ability to encourage and support junior members of the Commercial Team
- Strong attention to detail
- Good computer skills, including use of Microsoft Word, Excel and SharePoint Ability to build relationships at all levels within and outside the organisation
Desirable :
- Member of RICS or other relevant professional body, or working towards CSCS card
