Job Title:Manufacturing Engineer and Quality Manager

 

Location: Yeovil, Somerset

 

Company Overview: We are a leading high-tech SME specializing in optical and electrical assembly, located in Yeovil, Somerset. With a research and product development division based in Cwmbran.

Role Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and dynamic individual to fill a combined role as a Manufacturing Engineer and Quality Manager. This position is ideal for someone with a passion for technology, a keen eye for quality, and a desire to contribute to groundbreaking projects. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the seamless integration of our engineering processes with our rigorous quality standards, particularly in line with our AS9100 quality systems.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and oversee manufacturing processes to ensure efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and quality product output.
  • Work to maintain and enhance our quality management system in accordance with AS9100 standards.
  • Conduct regular quality audits, risk assessments, and ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to optimize manufacturing processes and quality control practices.
  • Collaborate closely with the R&D, engineering, and production teams to integrate quality management principles into all phases of product development and manufacturing.
  • Manage supplier quality, including conducting supplier audits and assessments, to ensure compliance with our quality requirements.
  • Address and resolve quality issues, implementing corrective and preventive actions to mitigate risks.
  • Train and guide staff on quality assurance best practices and AS9100 compliance.
  • Stay abreast of technological advancements and industry trends, applying insights to enhance our manufacturing and quality processes.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Optical, Electrical, Mechanical, or related field).
  • Proven experience in Manufacturing Engineering and quality management within a high-tech environment.
  • Familiarity with optical technologies, harnessing, electronics and electrical engineering concepts.
  • Strong understanding of AS9100 quality management systems and experience in managing quality systems in the aerospace or defence sectors.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

 

Desirable Skills:

  • Formal training in AS9100 or related quality management systems.
  • Experience in leading continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Familiarity with Solidworks

 

Availability:

  • The candidate should be available to start within the next two months.
