The purpose of this role is to work on an exciting new strand of work within the Comms Hub: building digital comms infrastructure and capacity in progressive movements. For us, that means developing a new digital training, making creative content and working with the messaging programme and the Spokesperson Network to strengthen digital comms work across the Comms Hub.
What you will be doing
Here are the key responsibilities of this role:
Developing and delivering a short ‘Doing-Digital’ training, working with other Comms Hub staff members and relevant organisations to develop the materials, activities and core objectives for a training that covers creating social media, video and online campaign content.
Creating digital content that forefronts effective messaging in collaboration with partners in the wider network and other Comms Hub staff members, this will include clipping and editing members of the NEON’s Spokesperson Network when they appear on broadcast and working with organisations to make campaign videos and other social media content
Supporting relevant organisations in our networks on their digital work and how to most effectively boost their campaigns/profiles by using digital - as well as providing digital guidance on an ad hoc basis
Spotting gaps in the movement infrastructure when it comes to digital comms, and seeking to fill it. This could include skilling people up on emerging social media channels, understanding algorithms or how to do low budget testing using digital platforms.
Connecting with and fortifying networks of digital communications practitioners and experts in the UK
Delivering the digital strategy, which will be a strand of the Messaging and Narrative Strategy.
Playing an active role in the wider Comms Hub, working with our Progressive Comms Network and Spokesperson Network, attending and feeding into key delivery across the organisation and being a part of making the Comms Hub as a cohesive overall team
Playing an active part in the whole NEON team, contributing to organisation-wide plans
Who you are
Experience in developing digital comms strategies that boost progressive narratives and campaigns. This experience could be in a voluntary or professional capacity
Experience in creating and managing digital content with compelling messaging, including experience of creating content for different digital platforms and channels, editing video content and analysing digital interventions.
Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to work collaboratively with a range of people, including grassroots campaigners, content creators and media spokespeople
Experience of turning creative ideas into real-life digital or campaign interventions
Experience of delivering training and facilitating groups, including developing training materials and delivering creative workshops to groups
A strong Interest in and understanding of the political, movement and digital landscape
An ability to respond quickly to key media moments and capitalise on breaking news stories, working well under pressure and meeting the demands of a dynamic organisation.
Logistical skills, including cost negotiations, venue liaison, transport etc
Willing to continuously learn and grow - with good emotional intelligence and self awareness including around your own power, and an ability to give and receive feedback well, and sit in (and encourage) healthy conflict and disagreement
