Main Duties
Materra builds solutions to grow and source future-proof cotton — with the data to prove it. Working with and for farmers, we design and implement custom cotton farming and sourcing programs for fashion and textile brands, that are climate resilient, transparent and equitable. Our mission is to make farmers the stewards of the land, give nature a voice and make cotton a force for good once again.
With over 55 experienced members in the UK and India, Materra has a multi-disciplinary team — from designers to engineers, farmers, impact analysts, agronomy experts, scientists and more.
We are looking for a creative, diligent and driven person who can assist our marketing campaigns and is based in London. You’ll be working with the Marketing Manager and will ideally come from a comms background, with fresh ideas on how to tell the story of cotton and the farmers we work with, for the fashion industry.
The ideal start date is April or May 2024. This is a 3-month internship, part-time, 3 days a week and also suitable for someone working towards their degree. We’re flexible with this — we’re also open to applicants who want to work full-time for 1-2 months. You’ll be primarily working from our office in Somerset House, London with the option to occasionally work remotely.
Main duties:
- Copywriting for our emails, social media, and other marketing materials
- Curating and proofreading content for our blog and social media
- Reporting on website + social media analytics
- Responding to PR and logistics requests and assisting in preparing for in-person events, fairs and conferences
- Desk-based research on the fashion industry
Essential skills:
- Fantastic writing and fact-checking skills. We highly value writing that is clear + concise and creative when it needs to be.
- Alternatively (or in addition), you have excellent social media and video editing skills. You know what’s trending and which brands are killing it on the social channels.
- A great eye for good design
- Ditto for detail, particularly in proofreading and making sure things are pixel-perfect
- Being culturally sensitive, responsible and comfortable taking ownership of tasks
The nice-to-have skills:
- Adobe Photoshop skills — no need to be a whizz, but knowing your way around would be great.
- A genuine love for fashion and impact-driven work
- Experience working with fashion/impact/sustainability startups
- Fluency in Hindi/Gujarati
What will the internship offer the student and what will they learn while they are with you? E.g. skills they could learn/develop and experience they could gain.
- The opportunity to work with a company in the heart of the sustainable fashion industry.
- Working with a growing team of designers, engineers, scientists, and farmers to shape the future of fashion and farming.
- Learning how to work in a fast-paced startup environment.
- Understanding both B2B and B2C brand marketing
- Flexible working hours
