Communications Officer – Interim – Derby – Hybrid working – £16.63 p/h – £19.00 p/h – Start ASAP – 6 Month Contract

Our client, a public sector organisation based in Nottinghamshire are seeking a Communications Officer to join the team. This is an exciting and unique opportunity; the Communications Officer will be involved in planning and delivery with stakeholders to support new organisational changes across the region.

Location: Derby 1 day per week on site, with occasional travel across the region (Notts and Derbyshire). Umbrella rate: £21.10 p/h - £24.20 p/h.

The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating communications activity across a range of services and campaigns to meet agreed objectives. This role reports to the Strategic Communications Manager and may oversee assistants or apprentices as designated.
Day to Day of the role:
• Deliver effective communications activity across various disciplines, ensuring alignment with organisational goals.
• Plan and execute campaigns and business activities using timely communication tactics to meet defined outcomes and customer  needs, within agreed budgets.
• Manage the Press Office daily, including direct media liaison.
• Proactively engage with media to negotiate deadlines, stories, and media opportunities.
• Develop and distribute content across multiple channels, including media releases, email, website, and social media.
• Build strong relationships with services, politicians, partners, stakeholders, and opinion formers.
• Stay current with developments in communications and PR, including emerging channels and technology.
• Analyse data to support decision-making and reporting.
• Participate in training to develop specialist knowledge.
• Represent the service’s interests, showcase good practice, and contribute to exchange networks.
• Develop communications based on insight, data, and evidence.
• Attend press and promotional events as required, including out-of-office hours and weekends.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
• Considerable communications skills and experience.
• Excellent literacy, communication, planning, and evaluation skills.
• Experience with budget management and reporting.
• Proven organisational skills, able to manage time effectively and work to tight deadlines.
• Proficient in ICT, including Microsoft Office, email marketing software, CMS, digital advertising platforms, and design software.
• Knowledge of data protection, copyright, and IP issues.
• Experience with social media promotion, advertising, and audience engagement.
• Creative with a good eye for design.
• Copywriting and proofreading experience with excellent attention to detail.
• Good PR skills and experience managing media and stakeholders.
• Knowledge of Google Analytics and event tracking for performance evaluation.
• Awareness of the Equality Act 2010 and its application to the role.
• Tactful, diplomatic, enthusiastic, and proactive with a friendly personality.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends when required.
