We have an exciting opportunity for aMaterials Engineer within the Rolls-Royce Submarines Business.

This is a great opportunity to be part of the Regeneration of the Raynesway Nuclear Licenced Site. This once in a lifetime major infrastructure programme is replacing the current facilities with modern state of the art manufacturing capability.

As a Nuclear Core Materials Engineer you'll support the substantiation and manufacture of core components via materials testing and defining materials standards.

The Core Materials team are responsible for owning and continuously developing our materials knowledge and capability, through testing, research and development. Interfacing closely with colleagues across the business in manufacturing, design, structural integrity and performance; we support the design, manufacture and through-life justification for the Rolls-Royce Nuclear Steam Raising Plant Core components.

What you'll be doing :

You will be developing materials specifications for new products, materials and special processes.

  • Defining validation and verification requirements for manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Acting as a consultant to the manufacturing teams on process compliance and non-conformance.
  • Developing new materials understanding and capability through research and development programmes.

  • Degree level qualification in a Materials Engineering subject.
  • Metallurgy and understanding of microstructures.
  • Manufacturing processes and their effect on material properties.
  • Defining and running materials test programmes and interpreting the results.
  • Communication skills, including formal report writing.

Optional Additional Skills

  • Data manipulation, modelling and automation.
  • Creating and validating analytical material models.
  • Through-life degradation, such as corrosion and effects of irradiation.

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don't currently already have this in place. Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets, you must hold a UK nationality. Any dual nationals will require additional scrutiny and background checks prior to commencing work with RRSL.
