Your expertise in design for defence or similar demanding environments will play a crucial role in successful translating of design requirements into viable technical solutions.
About the role
The Mechanical Design Engineer will be working as part of a small team of engineers designing new and maintaining existing products.
You will:
- Create and update 3D CAD models, assemblies and drawings using Solidworks in line with BS8888 and company practice and to generate accurate bills of materials on the company's manufacturing system.
- Take responsibility for delivering allocated projects, making sure they are running to schedule, concessions are assessed and approved/ rejected.
- Work closely with the other engineering team members on projects and activities.
- Produce design-related documentation, including, specifications, manuals, assembly instructions, illustrations, costings and test procedures.
- Actively contribute to continuous improvement of engineering activities.
- Mechanical Engineering degree (2:1) preferred or equivalent experience.
- Extensive experience in detailed product design.
- 3D CAD modelling in a manufacturing environment (preferably Solidworks).
- Proven expertise with simulation methods (FEA/ thermal analysis/ vibration analysis).
- General knowledge of manufacturing methods such as machining, castings, and moldings.
- DFM (Design for Manufacturability) and DFA (Design for Assembly) experience.
- Results-oriented, budget-conscious, with the ability to manage work within constraints.
- Conceptual thinking and the ability to translate design requirements into viable technical solutions.
- Precision engineering background and experience in designing complex mechanisms beneficial.
- Design for defence and demanding environments is an advantage.
- Full clean driving licence is required to undertake occasional customer and supplier visits.
- Due to sector requirements, only candidates eligible to obtain SC clearance can be considered; UK passport and permanent UK residency is essential.
