What’s expected of you?
We are looking for a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing team of developers and designers. In this role, you will work with customers to determine their design requirements, plan and execute the design of mechanical devices, develop and test prototypes, working closely with the manufacturing teams to ensure that design specifications are met. The ideal candidate should possess detailed knowledge of engineering and design principles and be able to find creative solutions to technical problems. You may be asked to travel around the UK and occasionally to our other offices in Europe.
Key duties include:
- Design and develop mechanical components, equipment and systems
- Create 3D models, technical drawings and specifications using CAD software
- Perform calculations and simulations to evaluate the performance and reliability of designs
- Conduct design reviews and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure designs meet requirements
- Identify and solve design issues, troubleshoot problems and make recommendations for improvements
- Collaborate with manufacturing to create and maintain technical documentation including design specifications, testing procedures and reports
- Assist in the selection of materials and components and collaborate with suppliers and vendors
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations
- Participate in testing and validation of prototypes and final products
- Support production and manufacturing teams with technical expertise
Experience and qualifications:
- Higher National Diploma or above in a Mechanical / Manufacturing Engineering
- Experience with design of steel, aluminium and injection moulded parts.
- Experience with Design for Assembly / Design for Manufacturing
- Experience designing physical parts in conjunction with electronic engineers
- Experience developing products alongside suppliers and manufacturing teams
- Ability to deliver work without requiring daily supervision
- Comfortable with ambiguity
- Proficient in CAD software, ideally SolidWorks but can also accept experience with packages such as Fusion 360, AutoCAD, or Pro/ENGINEER
- Strong knowledge of mechanical principles and materials such as sheet metalwork, vacuum forming, 3D printing, injecting moulding etc.
- Experience with simulation and analysis software – E.g. FEA
- Experience with project management and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Experience with manufacturing and production processes
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations such as ASME, ASTM, and ISO

- Persistent and committed: Reliable and determined to find solutions to design challenges, and should not be easily discouraged by setbacks
