Our client has successfully established itself as an innovative leader in developing new and advanced processes in microelectronics and green energy sectors for both commercial and scientific applications. They are currently looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to support new and on-going projects in the UK. The successful candidate will demonstrate a high level of energy and enthusiasm with a passion for engineering and problem solving. There will be good opportunity for the candidate to progress within the company, by taking on more responsibility within the department and eventually progressing into a leading role on high profile projects. Duties and Responsibilities: Assist with the implementation of design and departmental procedures within the Mechanical Design department. Design, detail and assist with the build of a range of mechanical items to include: o Precision machined parts, assemblies and mechanisms. o Machine structures such as welded frameworks and granite structures. o Machine enclosure and covers working with both universal extruded products and sheet metal fabrications. o Material handling devices such as automatic loaders and reel to reel equipment. o Design both modifications to existing equipment as well as design of bespoke specialist machinery. Support design projects & assisting in the process cycle. These include: o Creation & maintenance of project documentation such as Product Design Specifications, Bills of Materials, input into project schedules, task identification & planning etc… o Generate conceptual designs & ideas o Generate detailed 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing & assembly drawings using Autodesk Inventor. o Carry out and document appropriate calculations required for correct design and component selection. o Conduct design reviews with colleagues, manufacturers and customers. o Liaise with purchasers, vendors & manufacturers throughout the design, procurement and manufacture cycle (involves overseas travel). o Raise internal purchase requests for required components. o Hands on assembly, test and modification of designed equipment. o Assistance with the installation of equipment at customer sites if required. Take ownership, use initiative and take responsibility for projects and tasks. Seek required information and input from others when required is essential. Essential Skills and Experience: Competent user of Autodesk Inventor or equivalent 3D package. Previous experience with the design of precision mechanical parts, assemblies and machinery using a range of different materials and manufacturing techniques. Attention to detail with a methodical, logical and a considered approach to design work is essential. Able to work as part of a team working closely and cooperatively with other engineers, senior management and others whilst also able to work independently without supervision. Hands on approach with strong sense of task ownership and responsibility. Flexible and able to adapt to work within a fast moving and dynamic environment. Excellent communication skills both written and oral. Qualifications: Minimum HNC/HND qualification in a relevant mechanical engineering subject. Evidence of previous design work and achievements at interview is required.
