The opportunity
Due to expansive growth, our Leading nuclear company are looking for an ambitious Mechanical Design Engineer with experience with Mechanical Handling as well as designing lifting and handling equipment, Glove Boxes and Design Proposal Drawings (DPD).
Your duties and responsibilities will be
- As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for projects working on nuclear decommissioning, defence and fusion.
- Produce accurate drawings for use in all stages of the project, tender, design, manufacture/construction and installation.
- Able to translate engineering data from various sources such as site surveys, 3D scan point cloud. data and other engineering drawings to produce new CAD models and 2D drawings.
- Assisting the engineering team to produce and update design information.
- Produce and update models, drawings and schedules using computer applications.
- Communicating and presenting designs and making revisions based on feedback or prototype testing ensuring accurate records are maintained. This may be supported by animations or simulations if required.
- Ensuring drawings are accurate and easy to interpret.
- Use a variety of CAD software programmes to create designs in 2D drawings and 3D models.
- Ensure drawings are compliant with required drawing standards (British Company and Client).
You will have the following skills and experience
- Experience of designing lifting and handling equipment, gloveboxes and providing plant layouts Mechanical Handling Diagrams (MHD) and Design Proposal Drawings (DPD).
- Experience with producing detailed drawings to BS8888.
- Detailing of steelwork and reinforced concrete structures.
- Proficient in the checking of drawings would be of advantage.
- Knowledge and Experience in Information Management (Vault or similar software).
- Previous experience within the Nuclear Industry advantageous.
- 2 years experience in a similar role.
You will need the following qualifications
- HNC / HND / Foundation Degree in a relevant discipline.
Systems & software
- Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and Inventor/Vault essential. Experience using Solidworks will be an advantage.
