A market-leading energy storage business based in Surrey is currently recruiting a Mechanical Engineer to join its design and development team on a permanent basis. As their Mechanical Engineer, you will play a vital role in bringing key technical competencies to design and develop various parts and assemblies relating to fuel cell technology.
This role will suit a well educated (BEng and above) candidate with a strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of engineering and manufacturing methods to develop innovative solutions.
Mechanical Engineer responsibilities
- Develop the design solutions to fulfil the fundamental design and product requirements for the next generation of Fuel Cell Power Systems.
- Responsible for developing 3D CAD and engineering drawing for mechanical, electrical and BOP (Balance of Parts) components and subsystems along with test rigs and assembly fixtures.
- Implementing tolerance analysis to CAD and/or drawings as per industry recognised standards
- Using design for manufacture (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles to significantly reduce manufacturing cost and operational downtime.
- Perform hand calculations at various level with focus on structural integrity, durability, weight reduction and distribution.
- Identifying key components, liaising, and negotiating, material selection, cost, lead time with suppliers.
- Identifying failure modes and supporting in the development of DFMEA and other engineering assessments and activities.
Mechanical Engineer requirements
- Degree level qualification in Mechanical Engineering or closely related.
- You must possess industry experience gained in either automotive, aerospace, energy or oil & gas.
- Proven experience design and development of mechanical systems, machinery, and sheet metal.
- Proficient in using Solidworks and knowledge of PDM, and FEA analysis.
- Capable of performing hand calculations to provide initial design direction and confidence in simulation results.
- High level of knowledge of 3D computer aided design (CAD) software packages.
- Working knowledge of GD&T and Tolerance Analysis.
- Good understanding of physical failure methods (DFMEA) and approaches to root cause analysis.
£40-45k + discretionary bonus + private medical + 25 days annual leave + pension
