Our Client: Is a multi-disciplinary construction, refurbishment and maintenance contractor with operations in London, across the UK and capabilities in Europe.
Their client base is spread between the public and private sector with large warehouses and distribution centres across the country. They are focussed on capturing the growth that is being driven by the trend to online retail and regulatory pressure to improve the energy efficiency of the UK’s existing commercial building stock.
The Role: An experienced Mechanical Estimator to take the lead in collating bids for mechanical work and services. Report directly to the commercial director. Work independently and prepare the mechanical bid to a standard which can be submitted to the client.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to form their own estimating team, processes and systems in addition to developing standardised working practices for the mechanical estimating function moving forward.
Most of the mechanical works are plant replacements for existing buildings, fit out works, refurbishment of existing buildings & special projects. Typically, the value of the mechanical works is anywhere from £1k – 2m. You will need to be comfortable with pricing small works based on limited information or from site visits.
Responsibilities: Take-off mechanical material requirements to allow estimation of material & labour costs including all types of piped services excluding ductwork.
Obtain quotations for plant items and specialist sub-contract packages.
Assess any project commercial and technical risks.
Review client specifications and ensure that the estimate meets the requirements.
Ensure that sub-contractor quotations are accurate and compliant with the specification/drawing requirements.
Prepare and submit RFI lists, ensure bids are based on the RFI responses.
Prepare tender letters, list all technical and commercial clarifications.
Provide value added or value engineering suggestions where appropriate or requested.
Ensure bids align with any specific program or working requirements.
Provide support and liaising for construction and electrical estimation.
Conduct research to obtain data on labour costs, materials, production times etc.
Work with the rest of the commercial team to grow and develop the current subcontractor database.
Use software for providing measured bills and pricing of items within tender packages, data analysis.
Perform risk analysis prior to submission of any large value tenders.
Create and submit estimate reports, tender submissions or bids to SLT/Commercial team.
Build relationships with key vendors (subcontractors, suppliers, engineers etc.)
Provide consultation on planning (schedules, manpower needs etc.), production of tender stage programs.
Provide and complete tender quality submissions were requested related to the mechanical services.
Complete technical question responses where required as part of the tender related to the mechanical bid.
Experience: Proven experience as Mechanical Estimator or similar position with a minimum of 3 years’ experience
Familiarity with financial and project management principles
In depth knowledge of methods and estimation formulas, practices.
Strong maths and IT ability with an analytical, data mindset
Proficient in various relevant software systems such as Contract Master
Develop relationships with subcontractors to ensure timely submission of supporting quotes and identifying new sub-contractors for the business.
Outstanding communication and negotiation abilities

Thorough knowledge of:
New boiler installations
New chiller and AHU installations
Ventilation works.
Air conditioning and fan coil unit works.
Steam and condensate pipework
