Job description

A long established engineering company based in Sittingbourne is looking to recruit a Quality Control Inspector to join their friendly team on a full-time, permanent basis.

Role Summary:

The company manufactures castings and the role of Quality Control Inspector is to ensure that all Castings produced by the company meet the quality requirements of the customer and the organisation. This position reports directly to the Quality Manager. As a hands-on mechanical inspector, you will be responsible for carrying out general inspection functions both visual and dimensional, including the correct and proper use of mechanical measuring devices, carrying out Dimensional FAIRs and completing AS9102 Form 3`s, along with calibrating the mechanical measuring devices and maintaining the calibration database.

Working 07:30 - 16:00 Monday to Thursday - 07:30 - 13:30 Friday, 38 hours paid per week, you will ideally have a time served apprenticeship.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Perform complete inspections to engineering drawings.
  • Conduct measurements using a CMM, the ability to create CMM program`s would be an advantage.
  • Conduct measurements using precision instruments such as micrometres, vernier calipers, dial test indicators, height gauges and coordinate measuring machine.
  • Locate datums on parts and measure dimensions such as angle`s, arc and radii using a combination of aids such as parallel bars, gauge blocks, v blocks, sine bars and precision measuring instruments such as a digital height gauge.
  • Visually compare castings to each other to assess in process manufacturing variations.
  • Report quality problems or findings to the Quality Manager and follow up to ensure corrective action has been put in place.
  • Interact with different departments to ensure compliance with specifications and drawings.
  • Any other such duties that may be reasonably compatible with the nature and scope of the role.

Qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Qualification in mechanical engineering.
  • Time served apprenticeship
  • Previous experience in a quality/inspection role.
  • Good working knowledge of engineering drawings including GD&T.
  • A willingness to learn and develop.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • A positive 'can do' approach.
  • Good computer and communication skills.
  • The ability to work individually and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
