The John Muir Trust is seeking a motivated and organised individual to help grow and maintain the Trust’s support base through a variety of membership services and activities, including engagement activities and events across the UK.

This is a busy and rewarding job that supports the Trust in its membership recruitment and retention objectives and includes a variety of offline and online marketing and communications tactics.
Specific responsibilities include planning and organising the Trust’s Annual General Meeting, Members’ Gathering and supporting Members’ and volunteering events. Working within the Development and Communications team, the role is pivotal in supporting membership and communications objectives. Reporting to the Membership Manager, the post holder will be a self-starter with a flexible approach, excellent organisational skills and a passion for the outdoors and conservation issues. This position will be home-based with travel to the Pitlochry office.

Key duties

  • Assist with initiatives to grow the Trust’s membership and support base.
  • Support a small team of membership administrators to ensure the Trust’s membership database is up-to-date and that related. membership information and services – from welcome letters and packs to renewal letters and enquiries – are handled to a high standard Support the Membership Manager to co-ordinate and deliver the Trust’s membership recruitment campaigns.
  • Co-ordinate online and offline events, speaking opportunities and volunteering programme, working with the Trust’s regional teams to agree national and regional events plans to deliver against membership recruitment targets.
  • Co-ordinate the availability of branded display materials, and literature in support of membership recruitment across the four nations of the UK.
  • Update and maintain the Trust’s webpages for membership information and recruitment campaigns Support marketing activities, working with colleagues and external professionals, to grow the Trust’s membership and support.
  • Build and maintain relationships with current members and supporters:
  • Project manage and deliver the Trust’s AGM & Members’ Gathering.
  • Work closely with Regional Delivery teams to co-ordinate and support Local Members’ Groups Contribute content to the Trust’s communications channels including membership publications, e-broadcasts and social media updates.
  • Provide other support to the Development and Communications team, including project management for unique events and activities, as required.

Person specification
Essential skills, knowledge and aptitude

  • Strong marketing and excellent communication skills.
  • A positive attitude and the ability to think creatively.
  • Experience of supporting volunteering services and events.
  • Experience of Customer Relationship Management systems and or a membership database Knowledge and understanding of GDPR legislation and regulations.
  • Experience of market research and or a data led approach to marketing.
  • Experience of and aptitude for establishing and maintaining good working relationships across an organisation.
  • Competent IT skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel for work when required.
  • Affinity with the John Muir Trust values and mission.

Desirable

  • Negotiating, influencing and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience of delivering engagement projects.
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluating impact.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the John Muir Trust objectives.
