Job description

Are you passionate about making a positive, lasting difference to migrant people in York?


An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Communities and Equalities team on a full-time basis.


The purpose of the role will be to set up and manage services which ensure migrant communities can access the support they need, as well as influencing systems to ensure services are available and accessible.


The role will identify any gaps in service provision collaborate with the voluntary and community sector and work towards creating a welcoming environment for migrants. This may include overseeing migrant led projects that support initiatives and strengthening user engagement.


Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • To develop community engagement and introduce innovative methods of engagement with groups and sectors of York’s community who are currently not involved in local democracy.
  • To inform the neighbourhood approach and ensure the effective flow of information to and from partners and communities.
  • To enable ward and other funding to be targeted to priority areas.
  • To increase understanding of and engagement with York’s Minority Communities.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C1: Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly. Only a conceptually difficult subject can hinder a natural, smooth flow of language.

Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
