Job summary

This role is an exciting opportunity to join the Military Aviation Authority (MAA) Certification Division (Cert Div). As a member of the Aircraft Design Standards team you will play a key role in ensuring that UK Defence has the Airworthiness Certification Specifications it needs to drive the development of new aircraft and ensure that in-service fleets can meet the challenges of the future By keeping abreast of new and emerging technology, and the work of other national and international standards organisations, you will develop the information you need to manage these Specifications in collaboration with experienced Certification engineers.

Your work will cover everything from large transport aircraft to helicopters including the latest combat aircraft and uncrewed/remotely piloted air systems and the full range of associated equipment such as engines, avionics and mission systems.

We will provide you with the necessary role-specific training and can offer excellent personal and professional development opportunities to enable you to exploit the wealth of career development options available within the Ministry of Defence.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

  • Responsible for maintenance and development of MAA Certification Specifications for Airworthiness in support of the Certification of UK military Air Systems, covering Fixed and Rotary Wing aircraft, Remotely Piloted Air Systems and aero engines.
  • Co-ordinate the work of Certification Division technical specialists to deliver the UK default airworthiness specification, Def Stan 00-970: Certification Specification for Airworthiness.
  • Act as a UK representative on international and NATO standards Working Groups including for the development of Remotely Piloted Air Systems Standards.
  • Act as an MAA liaison on airworthiness standards development with other international military and civilian Regulators and Standards Organisations, with particular focus on ensuring Def Stan 00-970 keeps pace with the development of new technologies.
  • Support the UK Military Airworthiness Advisory Groups comprising stakeholders from MOD, industry and the regulated community.

Person specification

Essential

  • You will be expected to have experience working in AeroSystems or Systems Engineering.
  • You will need to be a registered Professional Engineer at I Eng level or willing to work towards I Eng or equivalent professional registration.

Desirable

  • Experience of working with Design Standards will be an advantage.
  • We will welcome applicants with practical experience of the development or assessment of aircraft-level performance or technical requirements.
  • Experience of the application of Military Air System Certification Process (MACP) will be beneficial but not essential.
