Our client is an innovative biotechnology company based outside of the centre of Cambridge. They run their own gene therapy portfolio and have built a platform to synthesise gene constructs which provides exciting possibilities for ensuring cheaper, faster and more accurate DNA / gene constructs than traditional plasmid-based methods. In a key phase of their growth, our client is looking to onboard a competent scientist in the field of Molecular Biology on a full-time and permanent basis.
The Opportunity
This is an opportunity for an experienced Scientist who has a strong background in molecular cloning and gene assembly (Golden Gate, Gibson assembly, Hifi). If you are looking for the next step in their career then this opportunity could be for you. As a Scientist within the Molecular Biology team you will be responsible for:
- Working on a range of Molecular Biology projects relating to gene therapy and gene editing projects.
- Use of techniques including: DNA cloning (Gibson assembly, HiFi, Golden Gate cloning), primer design, PCR, restriction enzyme digests, plasmid purification, transformation, E.coli cell culture etc
- Keep a comprehensive and up-to-date record of experiments and data/results
- Plan, refine and complete experiments which align with overall project plans.
- Work individually and collaboratively within the R&D teams.
- Attend departmental meetings and training sessions
Skills and Experience Needed
The ideal candidate will have the following:
- BSc/MSc in a biological discipline + experience in molecular cloning (Gibson, Golden Gate, HiFi, etc) (essential, equivalent experience also considered)
- Experience in E.coli culture, transformations/transfections, plasmid preparation (essential)
- Experience in gel electrophoresis and DNA/RNA quantification (essential)
- Prior industry experience in a Molecular Biology role (preferred)
- Experience in Primer and Sequence Design (desired)
- Experience in troubleshooting and developing laboratory protocols (desired)
- Excellent communication skills (essential)
