The role
As a Chief EngineerLaser and Electronics, you will have a role that is out of the ordinary providing strategic and technical leadership to the Science & Technology (S&T) business within UK Defence in order to meet business objectives and deliver growth safely and securely.

A core part of the role will be to develop and deliver the strategy for maturation and productionalisation of laser directed energy technologies.

  • Strategy: Set the technical/capability/solution strategy for the S&T areas and deliver against challenging objectives in line with the Strategic Business Plan. Establish product development and production strategies and roadmaps for laser directed energy.
  • Strategic relationships: Build and retain strong relationships with customers, suppliers and colleagues at senior management levels to support the growth agenda.
  • Leadership: Form and lead a team of experts from across the company to deliver on the S&T technical strategies. Success will depend on your ability to forge strong intra and inter-company collaborative working relationships to develop mature production solutions for new and existing customers.

This is a full time role, 37-hours hours per week, based at Cody Technology Park, Farnborough.

Essential experience of the Chief EngineerLaser and Electronics

  • Experience of laser directed energy and/or opto-electronics or electronics is essential.
  • Strong systems engineering skills with a record of application to a variety of projects applicable to a S&T business. 
  • Experience of engineering design, spiral development and qualification of high value, low volume defence products.
  • Experience of developing high reliability products from prototype to production.

Qualifications for the Chief EngineerLaser and Electronics

  • A first degree in Science or Engineering, or an equivalent, nationally recognised, professional qualification, with typically over 15 years of further on the job experience and growth of key skills, working in the Laser and opto-electronics domain and backed up with a tangible track record of product achievement.
