MPTS Medical Tribunal Members
Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service, Manchester and home based
Turn your medical expertise to some of the most important questions in UK medicine.
The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) is the tribunal service for doctors in the UK. Our tribunals make independent decisions about whether doctors are fit to practise medicine. We are a statutory committee of the General Medical Council (GMC) operating separately from the investigatory role of the GMC and we are accountable to the Council of the GMC and the UK Parliament.
Tribunals are made up of medical and lay (ie non-medical) Tribunal Members. As a Medical Tribunal Member, you will be registered with the GMC and hold a licence to practise.
You will demonstrate integrity, sound judgement and strong analytical skills, which you will apply when making impartial and unbiased decisions that affect the lives of doctors and help protect the public.
Hearings are mainly carried out at our hearing centre in Manchester, but we also run virtual hearings where tribunals work from home. A daily fee of £325 is payable, plus reasonable expenses.
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, in particular those with protected characteristics as it is important that our tribunal is representative of the UK public that we seek to protect. We recognise the value that lived experience brings, alongside skills and knowledge, and actively encourage those with diverse backgrounds and experiences to apply. We are committed to our processes and procedures being fair, objective, transparent and free from discrimination.
To meet our hearing requirements, we would ask that applications are only made where you can provide availability to sit for at least 20 days each year in blocks of at least 5 consecutive days at a time.
Closing date for receipt of applications: Midnight on 15 July 2024.
