As a Network Engineer (Data & Voice) you will be an integral part of the Infrastructure team contributing to the design, development and implementation of network and telephony strategy and roadmap which is intrinsically linked to the organisational priorities of the OPFCC, NYP and NYFRS.
You will work in a team of network specialists to deliver a secure, robust, highly available and up to date service offering which adds real value to the delivery of front-line police and fire services; through the provision of tools and support which maximise the operational effectiveness of front line workers. Work within the scope of the network and telephony components of the service catalogue delivering services in line with the associated key performance indicators and following EnableNY processes and policies. This may include field work and out of hours working.
Contribute to work falling outside the service catalogue supporting projects and commissioned work as directed by the line management. Will support a positive and inclusive team culture aligned to exemplify ‘one ICT service’ offering to service users. In-keeping with the vision of ‘one ICT service’.
Key responsibilities:
As part of the Infrastructure team provide input in to the infrastructure strategy and roadmap supporting the strategies of the OPFCC, NYP, NYFRS and Enable NY.
Support effective and positive engagement with stakeholders across the organisation providing feedback to line management to ensure the service offering meets current and future business needs. Identify and promote to line management any opportunities to innovate, advance and improve technological capabilities to support the business requirements of the OPFCC, NYP, NYFRS and Enable NY.
Participate in activities to transform business requirements and specifications into capabilities and explore the infrastructure delivery options, developing design ideas to time and performance quality standards.
Provide support to line management on all aspects of network and telephony, including events/incidents which require intervention by specialists, up to and including 3rd party providers.
Engage with suppliers to identify, manage and review products and services to achieve desired outcomes.
Follow approved ICT procedures and working practices associated with operating, controlling and modifying the installed infrastructure updating associated documentation.
Managing the portfolio of own skills in order to identify gaps in capability and knowledge that may impact on the ability to meet the demands of the business and highlight these to line management.
Use security risk analysis methods, tools and techniques as appropriate, to carry out risk assessments to identify potential exposures to network and telephony, critical to the continuity of delivering frontline services.
Ensure that the Senior Engineer is kept informed as to the current status of all network and telephony systems and any outstanding issues with service providers that could affect the efficiency of the network and telephony systems.
Provide information to line management on service resources to ensure that the disaster recovery requirements of systems can be satisfied.

Qualifications:
Hold or be able to demonstrate equivalent working experience at this technical level:
CCNA or above
CompTIA Network+
CompTIA Security+
ITIL Foundation Certificate in Service Management
Knowledge:
Working knowledge of H&S reporting and management systems
Experience:
Experience of working on implementation projects.
Have experience of working with enterprise network and telephony systems in a medium to large environment, preferably in an emergency services organisation, and have a thorough understanding of networking and telephony principles, standards and technologies.
Experience of public sector including procurement and ideally in an emergency services setting such as Police or Fire and Rescue Services
Credibility as a Network Engineer will be critical to your success in this role; you will therefore be able to demonstrate how you combine your strong professional knowledge and insight, with personal credibility and flair, in order to engage colleagues and clients through change.
