Job summary

At the NCA, Clinical Services and Well-being  have a dedicated team to provide a comprehensive occupational health and well-being service to our Officers. We aim to promote physical and psychological well-being and prevent illness and injury arising from work activity. We take a pro-active approach in the management of health in the work environment, advising on the effects of health on work and work on health. This includes but is not limited to, management referrals, routine medical and psychological assessments (role specific), work place adjustments and well-being initiatives.

Job description

The role of the Newly Qualified psychologist will provide practical and clinical support to National Crime Agency (NCA) Officers on well-being, occupational and mental health matters via a range of mediums such as therapeutic assessments, interventions, psycho-educational workshops, articles, and organisational support where appropriate. The role reports to a Senior Psychologist who will provide clinical supervision and continual professional development will be reviewed regularly.

Main Responsibilities:

• Work as part of a multi-disciplinary Clinical Services and Well-being Team within Psychological Services, supporting a diverse workforce of approximately 6,000 officers .
• To be responsible for the assessment, formulation, and management of officers fitness/suitability for role, ensuring any reasonable adjustments or recommendations for support are made and monitored. Manage difficult emotional and operational situations with sensitivity and skill.
• To provide psychological assessments of officers, based on appropriate use, interpretation and integration of psychological data from a variety of sources, including psychometric tests, self-report measures, rating scales, structured observations and semi-structured interviews.  To actively support reduced waiting for psychology appointments.
• To provide appropriate bio-psycho-social formulations, consultation and advice based upon analyses of a range of available psychological information concerning officers and their role, disabilities and any psychosocial hazards in Law Enforcement work and related to the Health and Safety Management Standards.
• To exercise responsibility for designing and implementing psychological interventions (including psychoeducation sessions and post incident support)  and, with supervision, adjusting, interpreting, and reformulating the psychological models as appropriate based on feedback, monitoring and follow up.
• Support and advise managers and officers regarding matters impacting on employee welfare and their ability to fulfil role requirements within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the service's policies and procedures, ensuring best practice.
• Provide written articles for dissemination in the agency, including those with a self-help focus.
• Contribute to clinical audits, reviews, development of policies/procedures and data systems across business areas as appropriate.
• Deliver a culturally and ethically sensitive, equitable psychological service to all groups regardless of race and ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, culture, religion, and disability.
• Ensure the quality, secure handling and dissemination of data/information, maintaining confidentiality, sensitivity and a duty of care in line with NCA policy and GDPR.
• To manage self-care and be an active participant in professional development.

Qualifications

The following qualifications/skills are essential to the role and proof will be required at interview:
• Hold or working towards full Membership with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or Association of Clinical Psychologists (ACP-UK).
• Hold or working towards registration with the Health Care Professional Council (HCPC) as a clinical or counselling psychologist.
These qualifications are essential to the role and proof will be required during the interview stage. In addition, please be advised that subject to a successful interview and should you accept the job offer, a start date is conditional to: Successfully obtaining and evidencing the qualification(s)/professional registration(s) in 2024, and passing the pre-employment vetting process.

Technical skills

• Knowledge of psychological risk assessment, formulation and mitigation management in accordance to the clinical governance.
• Evidence of expertise in two or more types of evidence based psychological therapies, preferably one or both of which may be; o CBT o EMDR - or trauma focused CBT o CFT o ACT o Trauma Focused Psychotherapy o Humanistic therapy
• Evidence of clinical notes and report writing skills in line with professional guidance.
• Experience of offering therapeutic evidence based individual assessment and treatment.
