WHAT TO EXPECT
The Next Gen e-Motor Lead Thermal engineer is responsible for providing guidance and expertise on all aspects of thermal design and analysis of eMachine new concepts, ensuring all functional targets are met for concept development.
They will liaise with the rest of the Next Gen eMotor Concept group, the CAE team and the EDU system teams to develop, build and execute thermal models of the eMachine concepts, resolving technical issues that arise during concept development, whilst ensuring the performance targets are met and exceeded without problems.
They will take a direct role in the identification of new Failure Mode and detection methods inherited to these new designs and will play a key role in overseeing testing and calibration activities around new concept demonstrators.
WHAT YOUU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
Oversee and coordinate all activities related to the thermal design of the Next Gen eMotor Concepts.
Run eMachine 1D Thermal CAE analysis, summarise results and feedback conclusions to the relevant stakeholders in an efficient manner.
Perform correlation studies between predicted and measured eMachine temperatures on concept assemblies.
Support the development of new test procedures and internal Standards relating to the thermal aspects of eMachine assemblies and subcomponents
Able to work effectively with design teams to develop and optimise solutions considering multi-attributes within defined deadlines and time constraints
Have some product knowledge and awareness of potential design constraints (packaging, manufacturing etc.) and ensure due consideration is given in developing solutions.
Coordinate and lead projects and teams including the feedback of results as required through design / project reviews
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Essential:
Working knowledge and experience of thermal design (analytical & CAE) methodologies
Previous experience and background in solving complex technical ideas and challenges
Previous experience on electric machine and its key assemblies, and the loss contributors on emachine assemblies.
Previous experience of delivering engineering or analytical projects
Competent in the use of
Matlab/Simulink
Macro Programming e.g. Excel
Presentation/authoring e.g. PowerPoint, Word
Project and people management skills.
Experience in proposing product modifications to improve design
Relevant degree or equivalent experience preferred
