The Role

An exciting career development opportunity has arisen to help deliver the North Devon Coast National Landscape Partnership’s responsibilities to conserve and enhance one of England’s finest landscapes at a time of great change. The manager role has been split into two, complementary, part-time positions, each with a different focus whilst retaining a need to be able to cover all aspects of the role. As the Manager (Partnership and Operations), you will coordinate the National Landscape Partnership and Executive, contribute to national and regional joint working and oversee the financial and operational delivery of the National Landscape service. You will implement the statutory AONB Management Plan, engaging with a wide range of agencies, organisations, land managers and local communities. You will manage the core team and work alongside the part-time Manager (Strategy and Development) who will lead on the AONB Management Plan review in 2024-25, planning advice, project development and external funding bids. A secondment opportunity could be considered for this role.

About You

Do you have a track record of working in the landscape, planning, land management, nature conservation or heritage sectors? Do you have experience of partnership working, networking, relationship building, budget management and staff supervision? We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and confident person to lead and drive this small, multi-disciplinary team during a period of change. You will need a detailed knowledge of protected landscapes, relevant legislation and policy, and of broader environmental issues related to landscape, cultural heritage, land management, planning, nature and/or climate change. This is to provide advice and guidance to the Partnership and staff team. Strong interpersonal, diplomacy and communication skills are essential to realise the National Landscape’s ability to convene, to catalyse, to facilitate, to influence and to deliver.

The North Devon Coast National Landscape

This is one of 34 Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty nationally designated in England that together with National Parks form the protected landscapes network that covers around 26% of England. Protected Landscapes are increasingly involved in delivering on national priorities and targets to enhance landscape, recover nature, build climate resilience and improve public access to the coast and countryside.

The post is mainly office based with some home working and the post-holder should be able to make site visits across the whole North Devon coastline, travel to meetings within Devon and occasionally attend events outside of normal office hours.
