Occupational Therapist
Job Title: Occupational TherapistLocation: Gloucester
Reports to: Registered Manager Directs: Placement Students
Main Purpose of the Role
  • Support service users participate in meaningful and satisfying recovery pathways
  • Taking a person-centered approach the focus will be on educational and vocational opportunities
Key Responsibilities
  • build knowledge, skills and confidence across the assessed needs inclusive of practical skills, education & employment opportunities, maximising physical wellbeing, community access, and social recovery including leisure and recreational activities
  • work in partnership with our frontline/ clinical team to identify opportunities to deliver individual support packages and a recovery focused clinical and therapeutic service
  • lead group sessions and 121 sessions as required
  • In partnership with the clinical team and psychologist oversee the completion, action and review of care/support plans and ICR s using recovery focused strategies ensuring person centred care
  • Take a person-centered approach with service users to develop meaningful support solutions to enable goals and ambitions to be achieved
  • Deliver 121 and group sessions to develop service users independence
  • Develop strong links to community services in South Gloucestershire
  • Support plan writing and implementation of support plans
  • Support crisis resolution
  • Formulate recovery pathways in consultation with the service user
  • Develop programmes of care, monitor, evaluate and modify pathways in order to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of intervention
  • Support/ amend policies and procedures and how they inform decision making and employee code of conduct
  • Using the MOHOST Model of Human Occupation framework, undertake OT assessments, interventions and evaluations
  • Conduct assessments and formulate recovery pathways to build knowledge, skills and confidence across the assessed needs inclusive of practical skills, education & employment opportunities, maximising physical wellbeing, community access, and social recovery including leisure and recreational activities.
  • Work in partnership with the clinical team to deliver a recovery focused clinical and therapeutic service
  • Work collaboratively with service users, carers, internal and external stakeholders and take an active role with cross agency working
  • Assess risk and contribute to the development of robust management strategies in line with positive risk frameworks and guidance
  • In partnership with the clinical team and psychologist oversee the completion, action and review of care/support plans using recovery focused strategies ensuring person centred care.
  • Understand and abide by all policies, procedures, legislation and guidance related to practice
  • Ensure accurate, robust and complete documentation of all records
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of mental health illnesses, sections and strategies for rehabilitative outcomes
  • Actively participate in multiagency working i.e. Safeguarding, MCA, DOLS processes ensuring service users are central to the process and measures implemented are least restrictive
  • Participate in internal and external MDT meetings
  • Support the Clinical Lead and Psychologist
  • Ensure effective working relationships are maintained
  • Support Senior Management Team in policy formulation, review and implementation within the service
  • Maintain knowledge of policies, procedures, legislation and guidelines in relation to practice
  • Assist with the effective induction of new staff
  • Provide support with recruitment activities as required
  • Engage in any new requirements, following training as appropriate
  • Carry out any other duties as required to support the team
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Registered with the HCPC
Skills and Experience
  • Two years significant experience of working with people with mental health needs including support planning process and evaluating risk
  • Experience of working with people with multiple needs i.e. mental health, learning disability, and substance dependency.
  • Experience providing practical and emotional support that has enabled service users to achieve defined objectives around recovery, taking responsibility and progressing towards more independent living.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, with the ability and confidence to generate and build effective relationships with service users
  • Strong IT Skills

Job description
Here, we have an exciting opportunity for an Occupational Therapist to join us on a full-time basis at our rehabilitative facilities based in Bristol and the outskirts of Thornbury.
We support adults aged 18-65 with a mental health illness transition out to the community; the service's core philosophy is the promotion of independence, health and social recovery through bespoke rehabilitation and care/support planning for these adults.
You will be able to work with a diverse client group, and a diverse staff team made up of clinical and non-clinical staff within a community setting to achieve positive outcomes for service users in your care.
You will be directly involved in the development of the service from its inception in partnership with the Registered Manager and Senior Management team.
You will work within a team and be self-motivated in order to achieve Maples goals in supporting the client to live independently.
You will be passionate about this work and willingness to learn new skills in all areas of mental health and learning disabilities.

As an Occupational Therapist, you will be expected to help provide support and guidance to an innovative and compassionate therapeutic team. You will be expected to work in partnership with our clinical team to deliver a recovery focused clinical and therapeutic offering to male adults experiencing complex mental health difficulties using a wide range of bespoke care planning and risk management strategies.
Your primary objective is to support service users participate in meaningful and satisfying recovery pathways to build knowledge, skills and confidence across the assessed needs inclusive of practical skills, education & employment opportunities, maximising physical wellbeing, community access, and social recovery including leisure and recreational activities.
This is a full-time role at 37.5 hours per week. Working days are Monday to Friday.

We are offering a competitive salary of GBP35,000 to GBP38,000 per annum plus a discretionary and non-contractual bonus.

Who are you?
Two years significant experience of working with individuals with complex needs
Registered as an Occupational Therapist or Registration within another related role
Effective interpersonal skills with the ability and confidence to generate and build effective relationships with colleagues, services users and external stakeholders
Experienced in formulating care/support plans and risk assessments
Able to assess and formulate recovery focused pathways across assessed needs
Able to participate in multiagency working
Experience of crisis mitigation and resolution
Experience and/or knowledge of positive behaviour support, positive risk management and active support models and strategies
You will be required to complete a full DBS if successful paid for by Maples.
Have good knowledge of safeguarding, ethics behaviours and code of conduct when supporting vulnerable adults.
