Specialist Paediatric Occupational Therapist Permanent
Salary: £34,000-£37,000 depending on experience.

* You will provide assessments and treat from the clinic.
* In your role as a Specialist Paediatric OT you will be visiting local as well as inner London schools, and delivering individual and group based therapy. You will be expected to follow already set up programmes, as well as implementing new programmes.
* You will visit mainstream schools, specialist resource provisions within mainstream schools, as well as specials schools.
* You will assess and treat children within the school environment.
*
* You will be required to travel between sites using your own or public transport, although your own car would be preferred. An auto top-up Oyster card will be provided.
* You will be taking daily notes, giving feedback to parents and teachers, and also screening and assessing new clients.
* You should have post-graduate experience working with a range of children populations.
* To work as part of the team to provide a comprehensive and co-ordinated range of specialist occupational therapy diagnostic, therapeutic and preventative services in school and community settings, which improve or maintain the health, function, learning potentials, independence and quality of life of children.
* To autonomously manage a complex caseload of children aged 0-19 with a range of neurological, learning and developmental disabilities. This will involve specialist assessment and treatment of
* children with neurological and learning difficulties, co-ordination difficulties, sensory processing problems and attention and behavioural deficits maintaining associated clinical records.
* To provide clinical support, training and supervision for junior staff and OT students.

* To build upon the foundation of previous junior level experience and develop towards a highly specialist level of clinical expertise.
* Communication / Relationship Skills
*
* To provide support and advice for the child's parents and family about all aspects of their care that relate to their therapy needs, adjusting your use of language to allow for their level of comprehension to understand.
* To adjust your communication according to the age and comprehension level of the child and use non-verbal communication, sign and augmentative communication aids as necessary.
* To provide and receive complex and sensitive information with regard to a child's difficulties and
* expectations.
*
* To be able to demonstrate empathy and sensitivity in response to parents and children.
*
* To provide spontaneous or planned advice, teaching and instruction to patients, relative, carers and other professionals, including trainees, which may be in response to complex, sensitive or contentious situations. This requires empathy, motivation, persuasion and reassurance.
* To communicate effectively with parents/carers, team members, colleagues and other agencies, including Health and Educational staff using written and verbal communication methods
* To attend meetings where requested in order to provide specialist advice about the functional needs of the child. To arrange these meetings when appropriate. This will include the development of comprehensive MDT plans
* To co-ordinate and arrange appointments with school staff, understanding the difficulty of dovetailing timetables, which can be time consuming and stressful and needs flexible diary management.
* To act appropriately when exposed to children who may be wet, soiled, sick, have head lice or hurt etc.
* To provide specialist OT reports for use within inter-agencies, e.g. education, and documentation relevant to the practice setting, standards and guidelines.
* To maintain accurate, legible and complete clinical records of all client related interventions
* To provide programmes on a verbal, written basis or using pictorial representation as required to ensure these programmes are carried over into daily life.
To Qualify:
* Diploma/degree in Occupational Therapy
* Evidence of post graduate course/professional development registered with the Health Professionals Council Membership of RCOT
