About the Service

Adults in Prisons and Approved Premises are entitled to receive the same access and provision of services as if they were a member of the local community. The Prisons and Approved Premises team aims to provide care and support services to adults in custodial settings across the full spectrum of need. Ensuring that adults in custodial settings have the care and support options they need to maximise their independence.

 

About the role

We now have a great opportunity to join the county’s high performing Prisons and Approved Premises team as part of the Health and Care Directorate at Staffordshire County Council.

Our team support the Adult Social Care Service to deliver the statutory care and support offer that the council provides to adults and young people within Prisons and Approved Premises.

In this role you’ll be an integral part of the ‘Assessment and Care Management’ teams in the county.

Main Responsibility

As an Occupational Therapist you will:

  • Support the Adult Social Care Service to deliver the statutory care and support offer that the council provides to individuals in the Prisons and Approved premises.
  • Conduct Occupational therapy assessment and provide appropriate support for individuals in the Prison and Approved Premises setting.
  • Carry an active caseload and undertake assessments of adults and older people with less complex needs, which could include initial assessments, including needs of carers, in accordance with Departmental Policy and procedure. To contribute to the development and implementation of care plans.
  • Identify and assess risks associated with Moving and Handling and contribute towards the implementation of recommendations to reduce risk.
  • Provide Occupational Therapy intervention to adults with less complex needs including recommendations for adaptations and equipment, planning and implementation of rehabilitation programmes, and counselling and advice, as necessary.
  • Provide Occupational Therapy advice on initial enquiries, supporting the first contact service.

 

The Ideal Candidate

You’ll be passionate about the work you do in Adult Social Care, and you’ll be committed to supporting those Adults and Young People who need us across the county.

You’ll also:

  • Be a qualified Occupational Therapist registered with HCPC and have experience in Adult Social Care working with individuals and across a range of different settings.
  • Have a proven track record of a person centred and asset focused outlook and have high professional standards.
  • Have a sound knowledge and experience of current legislation and its application to practice.
  • Uphold Standard of practice for Occupational therapists as defined by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and in accordance with the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT).
  • Have robust clinical grounding. And can be innovative and creative in the way that they work, providing holistic and strength-based solutions.
  • Have an applied knowledge of The Care Act and The Mental Capacity Act and experience of.
  • Experience of working in complex situations using professional judgement and a range of interventions.
  • You’ll also be able to communicate in a clear, jargon-free way and in a courteous, calm, and professional manner.

This is a permanent, full time role working 37 hours per week Monday - Friday with consideration for flexible working. The role is based at Staffordshire Place 1 - Stafford. However, work will be undertaken within the Prisons and Approved Premises across Staffordshire.
