Job description

Are you adaptable? Assertive? An effective communicator?
We, at the Highfield Unit, are looking for a dedicated Senior Occupational Therapist to support in the day-to-day management of our amazing Occupational Therapy team.
We're a state-of-the-art NHS facility providing specialist inpatient services for young people aged 11 to 18 with acute mental health needs. Our team offers a safe and supportive environment while young people are in the most vulnerable stage of their illness, ensuring individualised care for each young person is provided. We're flexible, passionate and dynamic in our approach to treatment, and we hold the children, young people and their families at the heart of what we do.
You'll have the opportunity to bring ideas to our service; we're always reflective, thinking about improvements and how we can move forwards, so if you're dedicated to delivering and driving change to achieve positive outcomes for our children and young people, we are the team for you.
Working on our ward is busy, can be challenging and intense, but as someone who's resilient, you'll be a big part of our young people's recovery - and make a real difference to their lives.
Main duties of the job
As our Senior OT, you'll be overseeing the work of our Youth Worker, Band 5 Occupational Therapist and Occupational Therapy Apprentice, providing advice and guidance to them to help with complex cases, with a focus on assessment, interventions, and outcome measures.
It's important that you get to work closely with our children and young people, so you'll hold a small caseload to continue with 'hands on' OT work. There'll be linkworking responsibilities too, which is great experience for you in terms of care co-ordination. Decision making is an important part of this role, and so we'll need you to be confident in what you can deliver.
You'll also be our OT representative at various team meetings, whether this is about management, business or operations, and therefore you will have a say in how we do things on the ward.
The team offers a comprehensive induction package and training programme for all new staff including a bespoke week of adolescent mental health teaching and a 3 day DBT skills based training.
We're happy to consider you working flexible hours - we understand the need for a good work-life balance - but there will be a need for some weekend and evening working too.
