A Vacancy at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
We are recruiting an enthusiastic person to a permanent part-time (22.5 hours) Band 3 Occupational Therapy Support Worker role. The Medicine-Surgery Occupational Therapy team at QMC covers a wide range of ward areas including amputee rehab.
B3 Support Workers carry out treatment programmes with patients under guidance and supervision of a registered OT, providing rehab and interventions to facilitate safe discharge. Some clerical and administration tasks will also be undertaken (eg keeping records, filing, photocopying).
This is an excellent opportunity if you have previous experience as a therapy or rehabilitation assistant in an NHS or care setting. We would consider applications from people with transferable skills and a passion for OT.

The successful candidate will:
Have good communication skills, a track-record of working with people who are experiencing challenging circumstances, good time management and prioritisation skills.

Demonstrate initiative, willingness to learn, emotional intelligence and compassion in relation to patients, carers and colleagues.
There is a requirement to contribute to weekend and bank holiday shifts as part of our service wide rota.
The successful applicant will work alongside the Occupational Therapists who cover the medical and surgical wards at QMC.
Please see job description and person specification for full details. Core responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Carrying out basic OT assessments with less complex patients (delegated by registered colleagues).
Discharge planning for less complex patients with guidance from colleagues.
Ordering and/or issuing basic OT equipment.
Following and evaluating treatment plans and rehab goals as delegated by other members of the team.
Providing colleagues with feedback about patient's progress in relation to rehab goals.
Supporting the management of the QMC equipment store and interim wheelchair stock.
Communicating clearly with patients, carers and colleagues either face to face or over the phone.
Maintaining timely, concise and accurate patient-related records.
Working flexibly - including working rostered weekends.
Modelling professional behaviours and NUH values.
Championing a positive and inclusive team culture.
Excellent communication skills are a must in this role as you will be expected to communicate with patients, carers and members of the MDT.

The Occupational Therapy service is part of the Therapies and Rehabilitation Services pathway, which is one of the pathways that together make up the Clinical Support Division at NUH. We are a diverse pathway of AHPs and support staff, employing over 800 staff, who works together to deliver the high quality care we aspire to. Our HCPC registered AHP professionals comprise of physiotherapists, dietitians, occupational therapists, orthotists, prosthetists and speech and language therapists. We have a Chief AHP to lead us on our strategic direction, and many of the pathway leadership team have pathway AHP backgrounds to support our staff. There are also Practice Development Therapists to support career development for all.

The Medicine & Surgery Occupational Therapy team is a generalist team that is committed to using specialist skills and knowledge to deliver high quality person-centred assessment, treatment and rehabilitation to our patients whilst optimising patient flow within the acute setting. We expect team members to work hard and contribute to a positive and inclusive team culture that supports high performance.
Learning opportunities include: vascular amputee management, wheelchair provision, prosthetic rehab, long stay rehab (including upper limb assessment and rehab), working with patients with complex psycho-social presentations including drug and alcohol addiction and homelessness.
Our involvement in amputee rehab provides the unique opportunity in the acute setting of carrying out regular access and discharge visits which requires us to use core OT skills and gives us the opportunity to work alongside specialist outpatient teams to deliver high quality rehab and care.
We have close working relationships with specialist OT colleagues in other teams and regularly access their specialist skills, which creates opportunities for joint working and learning and development.
We share an office with our physio colleagues and other OT teams and are committed to working collaboratively across professions and teams.
