Are you looking at breaking into the Cyber Security field?

Or are you already an experienced IT Security Specialist?

Either way, are you interested in helping to build the University of the future? Can you help us overcome the challenges of emerging technologies, new competitors and changing expectations from our staff and students that are changing our world forever? We know now isn’t the time to stand still, we need to act boldly, be innovative and transform the way we think, especially in the realm of Cyber Security.

As an Operational IT Security Specialist, you are expected to assist in our transformation journey away from traditional IT Services, towards UEA’s 2030 vision. You will achieve this by mitigating the University’s operational IT Security risks to help develop a university that is at the vanguard of student, staff, research and global success in this time of great change in Higher Education in the UK and internationally.

The University’s Information Technology and Computing Service (ITCS) is at the digital heart of UEA. ITCS covers all aspects for IT provision for the University’s Faculties, Schools and Professional Services divisions. Services are provided to students and staff covering both academic and research activities.

This is an exciting opportunity to grow your security skills across Cloud, Network, Infrastructure and Application landscape. You will be part of our Operational IT Security team that is responsible for mitigating the University’s operational IT Security risk.

The responsibilities for the team include, reporting on and mitigation of vulnerabilities within the IT estate, the detection and initial investigation of suspicious activity from analysis of system log files and improving awareness of the IT Security agenda within operational IT teams via training and coaching. As a team member you will be responsible for one or a number of those areas.

The role is critical to the success for ITCS, and the wider University, so the ideal candidates will be educated to degree level or with equivalent qualification or experience in a comparable role. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are necessary.

Appointment will be at Grade 7 for an applicant with demonstrable previous experience, otherwise appointment will be made at Grade 6 with a structured training and development plan.

This full-time post is available from 17 June 2024 on an indefinite basis.
