We’re looking for an Operations Manager who will be responsible to develop, oversee and manage all local activities including service, to optimise all activities, support regional operations budget and continuously monitor and develop efficiency, productivity, quality focus, and personnel performance as well as fixed costs in the respective locations. This role is to be able to fulfil internal and external customer and business requirements at all times, to improve and maintain the motivation and skills of the employees and develop teamwork spirit within the operations team(s) and to actively research and drive business opportunities within scope of strategy. 

 

This position can be based in Aberdeen, Newcastle, Liverpool or Bournemouth, UK.

Main tasks and responsibilities

1.    Business development in the respective locations, including strategic business planning in accordance with the guidelines set by the Region 

 

  • Overall business development in the location(s)
  • Business plans, segmentation and action plans to support the GSD strategy
  • Creating local business plan and implementing the corresponding action plan
  • Target setting for direct reports 
  • Organising the operations according to the Operating Principles manual

 

2.    Profit and loss responsibility for the local operations

 

  • Optimising service offering in the location(s)
  • Engineer utilisation 
  • Local inventory management efficiency
  • Pricing within given guidelines
  • Optimises local administration routines
  • Cooperation with other Service locations to optimise resources used
  • Operative day-to-day management of the team members
  • Present financial reporting of the location(s) as needed

 

3.    Skills management

 

  • Annual training plans for every employee
  • Direct responsibility for the Service personnel

 

4.    Statutory responsibilities                            

 

  • Conducts the business in accordance with the local Labour Law of the specific country, trading practice and corporate principles (Cargotec Code Of Conduct)
  • Informs the Group about all legal risks

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Minimum Bachelor degree in Engineering/business studies
  • Minimum of 5 years related management experience
  • Strong experience in Marine Shipping Industry and knowledge of Offshore Industry
  • Strong Leadership, managerial and interpersonal skills 
  • Business development and marketing skills to secure new clients and maintain existing client relationships  
  • Able to drive team performance to best in class; Able to create and build highly effective service teams within the organisation
  • Adaptability, flexibility and the ability to maintain effectiveness during change 
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal
