We are currently seeking an experienced, professional Operations Manager to join the Gates team. This is a new role to the business required by growth and involves co-ordinating and overseeing our large warehouse and logistics functions here at Gates, as well as day to day general site operations. This is a full-time, permanent position, working five days a week including alternate weekends.
Gates is a successful independent Garden centre family run business as one of the largest in the country, committed to growth and with excellent customer service standards at its core. Set in a beautiful rural location, this destination garden centre, farm shop and restaurants covers over 12,500m2 of retail displays, offering a huge selection of home, garden and lifestyle product ranges, as well as a growing online shopping function.
All warehousing at Gates is on a full WMS (Warehouse Management System) and logistics are managed with our own fleet of delivery vehicles and in house drivers, as well as via courier service.
The role:
- Manage the warehouse and logistics teams to ensure high standards are always maintained, setting targets and ensuring all KPIs are met
- Manage day to day general site operations, including maintenance and cleanliness
- Manage inventory and stocktaking in line with WMS requirements
- Manage the shipping process on our own fleet and via courier and monitor this to make sure they are achieved.
- Regularly review warehouse and logistics systems and efficiency
- Ensure all operations are carried out in an appropriate, cost-effective way, and safe manner
- Improve operational management systems, processes and best practices
- Manage staff rotas, training and recruitment
- Working indoors and outdoors, including a wide variety of jobs related to garden centre operations
The ideal candidate:
- Familiar with WMS (Warehouse Management Systems)
- Leadership skills with experience of managing a team and be able to lead from the front.
- Must be highly computer literate, accurate and reliable
- Outstanding organisational skills with great attention to detail
- Great customer service skills
- Responsible, reliable and trustworthy
- Flexible with a ‘can do’ positive attitude and happy to be ‘hands-on’ when required
- Self-motivated, enthusiastic and well organised
- A good team player with a friendly personality
