Raytheon UK, a leading International Defence & Security prime, are looking for an Orbital Analyst Operations Lead to lead and manage the day-to-day tasking, operations and outputs of the operational Orbital Analyst team, performing Space Domain Awareness (SDA) duties to support the safety of civil and commercial satellite operations. The Orbital Analyst Operations Lead will have experience and expertise in operational collision avoidance, orbit determination, fragmentation and re-entry analysis across all orbital regimes and will be accountable for the quality of the technical services provided to the customer. Additionally, the Orbital Analyst Operations Lead will have the opportunity to provide technical support to the customer and partner organisations on wider national and international SDA programmes as required and at the discretion of the Senior Orbital Analyst. Main Duties
- Manage and provide clear direction and tasking to the operational Orbital Analyst team.
- Assist in leading the intelligent tasking of sensor networks, maintenance of accurate catalogues of resident space objects and compliance monitoring of UK-licenced spacecraft
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of on orbit events and identify events requiring further analysis and/or escalation
- Responsibility for timely and high-quality submission of regular customer reporting and adherence to contract KPIs
- Provide ad-hoc technical assistance to the customer and partner organisations for ongoing and future projects
- Professional experience in the space industry with focus on Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST), Space Situational Awareness (SSA) and/or space systems with a comprehensive understanding of Space Weather, SSA and SST modelling and analysis.
- Experienced in data analysis and the development and utilisation of Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST) and Space Situational Awareness (SSA) analytical software and skilled in one or more of the following programming languages: Java, Python, C languages such as C/C++/C#, Fortran or MATLAB.
- Understanding of software development lifecycles, workflow procedures and architectures to design, develop, test and validate bespoke SSA tools.
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral), to articulate and communicate technical detail clearly and concisely with colleagues, customers and partner organisations at all levels. Able to prepare detailed reports and present where necessary.
- Effective time management and capable of managing multiple work streams.
- A comprehensive understanding of mathematics, scientific processes and requirements.
- Willing and eligible to hold SC security clearance and obtain DV clearance if required.
- A bachelor's degree in a relevant field (physics, mathematics, engineering or science).
- Extensive experience in working in the SSA/SST space domain and expertise in conducting collision avoidance analysis, orbit determination, fragmentation and re-entry analysis in an operational setting.
- Ability to develop and maintain complex operational processes and requirements.
- Capable of leading a team effectively and professionally to deliver results.
- Confident in providing technical demonstrations of capabilities to both internal and external parties.
- A strong understanding of celestial mechanics, astrodynamics and atmospheric physics.
