Our summer internships offer you the opportunity to gain practical experience of working within Local Government and see how the Council make a real difference for local residents and communities. It is a great opportunity to build your skills and knowledge within the Council and consider if this career pathway is the one for you.
As well as giving you a taste of working life, you will also have the chance to:
improve your understanding of local government and the public sector- gain valuable insight into the way the district council operates and provides essential services
- network with a wide range of individuals – customers, colleagues and partner organisations
We have placements to offer across key service teams in the following Directorates:
Customer, Business and Corporate Support- Community and Place Delivery
- Strategy, Policy and Transformation
There may be opportunities for extended placements or work beyond the initial 13 week placement as well as other career opportunities within the Council. We will give you full support and guidance to develop your employability skills and gain confidencemin taking on new tasks. However, as you progress and become familiar with the Council in your role, we will give you more responsibility and independence.
About you
There is no job description for this role since each placement will be different. We are seeking motivated individuals who wish to explore and develop their career in the public sector, and who are particularly interested in local government opportunities.
Successful candidates will need to demonstrate they meet the criteria below:
a) be in their final year of studies or have recently completed a degree or degree apprenticeship (e.g. BSc/BA Hons). Relevant subject areas include (but are not limited to) Economics, Finance, Town Planning, Humanities, Digital and Social Media, Social Sciences, Project Management, Law and Business.
St Albans is a unique English Cathedral City with a colourful history which can be seen in the Roman remains and variety of beautiful architecture, heritage sites and conservation areas. Set within green belt, off the M25, A1M and M1 the District includes a cathedral, vibrant city centre and thriving villages. Our centrally located offices in the city are near to the station (London St Pancras 20 minutes), shops and restaurants. In short it is a great place to live and work.
