Client is a 33-year old female. PM has difficulties with higher level cognitive functions (processing, decision making, multi-tasking, problem solving, memory etc). She experiences high levels of fatigue and would benefit from support to manage the structure of her days/weeks. She experiences high levels of anxiety, especially in community settings. She has ongoing difficulties related to pain and high level balance issues. PM feels overwhelmed easily, and has a tendency to be extremely critical of herself, and would benefit from positive reinforcement and gentle feedback from her Support Worker.
PM has one son who is just over a year old and is expecting her second baby in May 2024. Although the successful candidate will not be required to take responsibility for looking after the baby, experience with infants/young children would be helpful.
Suitable candidates will:
- Have relevant experience in health/social care/mentoring type roles
- Be studying/have studied Psychology at degree level
- Be car owner/drivers
- Be confident, outgoing and active, with good motivational and communication skills
- Be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check
- Be willing to work with the client on a 1:1 basis, in either the client’s home or community settings
Description of the role:
PM sustained a traumatic Brain Injury in a road traffic accident. She requires a part-time Support Worker to enable her to reach her full potential while she undertakes home-based rehabilitation, which is focussing mainly on higher level cognitive skills, and on emotional management (for example, anxiety & panic attacks).
The successful candidate will receive training and supervision from members of the multi-disciplinary team: Brain Injury case manager, consultant neuropsychologist, neuro occupational therapist, neurophysiotherapist.
Activities will include – community-based support (shopping, exercise, socialising), Pilates & physio at home. PM would like to work towards completing the ‘Couch to 5K’ programme. Mindfulness & relaxation are a core feature of her programme, but she has difficulty slowing herself down and stopping, without prompting & support. PM benefits from focussing on activities which are structured, creative and task based – she loves cooking, for example, and a range of crafts, and is ‘destashing’ her wardrobe using a phone app to list & sell clothes.
This role is ideally suited to a psychology student or similar.
