What you’ll be doing

Within the Construction environment, think about buying materials, managing big projects, ensuring health and safety and customer service. At any given time, you’ll find us working on some circa 400 developments in both towns and rural areas across the UK, and every one poses unique challenges. Some are from scratch on brownfield sites; others see us adapting existing buildings, like old factories or disused hospitals.
We need people who can bring us fresh ideas and imagination on one hand, and the commercial ability to manage people, budgets and costs on the other. It is testament to the professionalism of our construction teams that for an unprecedented thirteenth year, Site Managers have won more NHBC Pride in the Job Awards than any other housebuilder.


Reporting to the Construction Director to support them in fulfilling the irresponsibilities, contributing to the overall success of the business through the provision of efficient and effective administrative support.


You will be expected to:


  • Work closely with the Director to ensure that tasks such as, reports, expenses incoming post and correspondence, management of diary/meetings schedule and email, etc. are dealt with efficiently.
  • Type letters, memos, Board Reports, schedules, etc., and follow up responses if required.
  • Liaise with internal customers to ensure a smooth workflow between departments and with Head Office.
  • Support and co-ordinate the departments training including our Apprentices.
  • Monitor costs incurred by the Department or Divisional Office.
  • Collate and produce departmental reports and presentations. Including organising departmental events, meetings with site teams, sub-contractors and suppliers.
  • Co-ordinating and input departmental data for example, weekly timesheets, holiday and sickness reporting.
  • Work closely with the Divisional HRC to co-ordinate departmental HR.
  • Perform general office administration tasks as and when required to meet the needs of the department – e.g. faxing, filing, photocopying, dealing with telephone calls.
  • Provide other appropriate ad hoc duties, and administrative support for other departments, including covering reception as and when required.

To be successful you will have:

  • Experience of working in a secretarial/admin role.
  • Experienced audio typist, with intermediate to advanced level of proficiency with MS Office programs and a good standard of written English. Ability to generate professional correspondence unaided.
  • Self–disciplined, with demonstrably good time management skills and the ability to manage a number of priorities.
  • Ability to multi-task, and work efficiently and accurately under pressure.
  • Team player, supportive of colleagues.
  • Professional and pleasant manner in dealing with internal and external customers.
  • Excellent telephone skills.
