Job Summary:

Primarily working closely with Programme teams, the Pastoral Tutor is responsible for delivering enhanced pastoral care, ensuring engagement and retention amongst students from diverse and non-traditional educational backgrounds. This could include mature students, international students and those who may not have had a positive academic experience previously. The Pastoral Tutor will foster strong relationships with key University stakeholders including, Student Services, Registry, Learning Development Lecturers and Academic Departments.


This is a key student facing role of which the main purpose is to deliver a positive and supportive student experience for students as they progress through their University journey. One of the key aspects of this role will require the Pastoral Tutor to, when
necessary, identify students who they believe should be considered ‘at risk’ of either premature withdrawal, or academic failure in accordance with the University’s Students at Risk procedure.

Candidate Profile:

The successful candidate will possess good organisational skills, ability to remain calm under pressure and work diplomatically, efficiently and effectively prioritising tasks to meet tight deadlines. They will be flexible, with the ability to learn quickly and adapt to new situations and possess the ability to motivate students and have a good understanding of student needs.

They will possess the ability to work effectively as a member of a team, effect change where necessary and establish and maintain good relationships with colleagues and students. They will also possession of excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills; excellent IT Skills and familiarity with Word, Excel, MS Office, and Social Media Platforms and demonstrate the ability to work independently without close supervision and take initiative as appropriate.
