Venn Group are currently working with one of our valued public sector clients to source a meticulous and thorough Payroll Assistant for an exciting new interim assignment.
The organisation in question is based in Hertfordshire and is paying £19.05 per hour inc. holiday pay, for six months, and offers hybrid working.
The position involves the following:
- Processing the periodic payroll for employees and assisting the Payroll Manager in other duties related to the running of the payroll function for the organisation and external clients
- Processing all new starters and leavers, handling reference requests, preparing leaver letters, and managing holiday payments
- Creating and maintaining employee personnel files, ensuring proper archiving of leavers’ information, and adhering to the Data Protection Act guidelines
- Establishing and updating folders for employee benefit information, as well as maintaining a monthly payroll file for new starters, leavers, and changes
- Entering relevant information into the payroll system and verifying its accuracy
- Performing payroll calculations and ensuring individual payments are correct
- Instructing BACS to make payments on the correct pay date and coordinating the distribution of pay slips
- Reconciling the payroll with the annual accounts (Red Book) and the Financial Information Systems
- Handling inquiries from all staff members regarding pay-related matters
- Recording details of allowances claimed by Councillors in the Ledger manually and documenting the number of attendances claimed
Skills and qualifications needed:
Education: Must have at least a GCSE or equivalent level of education, including proficiency in English/Maths
Certifications: Possession of a Payroll Alliance Certificate, IPPM Diploma, or equivalent qualifications
Experience: Demonstrated 1 to 2 years of experience in payroll-related tasks
Legislation Awareness: Understanding of payroll-related legislation, tax regulations and taxable benefits
Financial Expertise: Knowledge of income tax, National Insurance, sickness entitlements, and Superannuation
Confidentiality: Appreciation of the importance of maintaining confidentiality in handling sensitive information
Computer Literacy: Proficiency in using various software tools for data handling and transmission
Personal skills: Must be able to effectively work with a team, communicate well, be adaptable and diligent, and have a positive attitude
