Payroll Manager : The Role

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to join the team here at Heartwood Collection. As a relatively small Finance team of 13 people based at our Head Office in Teddington, the cultural fit is extremely important. The role will report directly to the Financial Controller but will also have exposure to the senior management team across all functions. We currently employ approximately 1,450 employees and over the next 12 months we plan to hire another 400 staff. The role is critical in the finance function and previous experience of working in hospitality would be highly advantageous. In addition, we are looking to centralise the administration of tronc (i.e. tips and service charge) and the successful candidate will manage this process day to day. Ideally, the role will assist the management accounts team as well but the key focus will be on the payroll and tronc processes.

Payroll Manager: Key Responsibilities

Payroll

• Run monthly head office salaries for 150 employees
• Run the payroll for our hourly paid site staff (c1300 employees) which is completed on a 4-4-5 weekly basis
• Manage all relevant HMRC and pension submissions
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation
• Prepare quarterly calculations to check we are compliant with national living wage

Tronc

• Administer the Tronc in line with the scheme guidance on a weekly basis
• Liases with sites on any queries raised
• Keep up to date with any changes in the legislation
• Liases with our Tronc advisors and action points from the quarterly audits

Other Ad Hoc tasks

• Assist with the month-end close process, including checking of employee expenses and reconciliation of employee credit cards
• Provide ad hoc analysis as required
• Work closely with the senior Payroll Manager

Payroll Manager: The Ideal Candidate

• Experienced Payroll Manager with a minimum of 500 employees
• Ideally previous experience in the hospitality industry
• Exposure and understanding of a tronc system
• Strong excel skills
• Excellent attention to detail, as the ability to work accurately, is essential in the role
• Excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships across functions
• Experience of managing multiple priorities and delivering to a deadline, with changing priorities and time pressures
• Personable and friendly character who will be a team player
• Highly motivated with the ability to work both independently and in a team to achieve results
• Detail-oriented with excellent analytical, quantitative and investigative skills
• A self-starter who takes a proactive approach
