Performing Arts Technician
Role Overview:
The Performing Arts Technician supports the Performing Arts Faculty (Music, Drama, and Art & Design) by preparing and assisting with curriculum and extra-curricular events, including concerts, plays, and exhibitions. This role involves setting up equipment, maintaining instruments and materials, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Classroom and Practical Support:
- Provide technical and learning assistance to students and staff in classrooms and throughout the school.
- Assist with music and drama performances, including equipment setup, sound and lighting management, and backstage support.
- Handle and display 2D and 3D artworks for the end-of-year exhibition.
- Support students during classes to enhance their learning experience under the teacher's guidance.
- Uphold high health and safety standards, following school policies.
- Maintain performance and arts notice boards and displays, reflecting the department's diversity and student talent.
Preparation:
- Prepare materials needed for lessons, such as scripts, props, costumes, and music.
- Repair, maintain, and store equipment used in Performing Arts classes, ensuring everything is operational and ready for use.
- Set up practical equipment before lessons as required.
- Keep classrooms organised and safe.
- Provide one-on-one technical assistance to students for their projects.
Equipment Maintenance and Stock Control:
- Manage inventory and stock control to ensure a consistent supply of teaching equipment.
- Order stock as directed by the Head of Performing Arts.
- Store equipment and materials in an orderly fashion.
- Check deliveries for accuracy upon receipt.
- Collaborate with the Facilities Manager to ensure tools and equipment are serviced and maintained.
Additional Duties:
- Perform tasks as directed by the Executive Principal, line manager, and ALT.
- Carry out first aid and fire marshal duties when required.
- Operate cashless catering tills when necessary.
- Flexibility with working hours to support various events.
- Attend and support after-hours academy events, such as the summer fair and Black History Month performances.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience in a technical role within the Performing Arts or a similar field.
- Proficiency in setting up and maintaining sound, lighting, and stage equipment.
- Ability to repair and maintain musical instruments and related equipment.
- Strong organisational skills for managing inventory and preparing materials.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for supporting students and staff.
- Commitment to maintaining high health and safety standards.
- Flexibility to work outside standard hours for events and performances.
