About Directorate

The Assurance and Public Protection directorate ensures democratic accountability of council services. The directorate work together to monitor and ensure compliance and provide assurance of Barnet being an engaged and effective council that protects the public purse. They provide enforcement services that engage and protect residents and businesses to support a safer and healthier borough.

2024 sees the exciting launch of the ‘Consumer and Public Protection Service’.

Aligned with the council’s vision set out in ‘Our Plan for Barnet’ the new service will focus on:

  • Working collaboratively across a range of council services to understand issues faced by residents and businesses.
  • Developing an excellent placed-based service to raise compliance and standards.
  • Transforming our operating model by utilising technology and intelligence data to effectively respond to service demands.

About the role

To provide technical professional Pest Control services with the overall aim of protecting and improving the health and wellbeing of every resident, worker, and visitor within the Borough. The post holders will operate flexibly to accommodate changes in priorities and provide support to other staff as required in fulfilling their functions. To deliver high quality customer focused Pest Control services and provide practical ancillary support in connection with Pest Control. The service is aimed at residents and a variety of businesses in the borough and in neighbouring areas and ensuring that the Council discharges their discretionary obligations.

About you

  • Ability to work without direct supervision whilst on the job and to work under seasonal pressure.
  • Willing to work in conditions which some may find unpleasant (e.g., confined or dirty environments, at heights, dead rodents, animals).
  • Basic knowledge of rodents, insects and their control.
  • Practical understanding of health and safety duty compliance.
