This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Pharmacy Technician to join the Grange Street Surgery workforce to deliver high quality pharmacy services to the patients.
As a technician you will work with the surgery pharmacist and wider GP team to process and action letters received from hospitals or other clinical settings, complete medicines based projects and high risk drug monitoring to promote safe, effective prescribing and deliver quality improvement initiatives.

The post holder will provide support to the practice pharmacist to ensure safe provision of pharmaceutical services by Grange Street Surgery through the implementation of an efficient medicines management system to ensure patients get the right medicine at the right time and are appropriately counselled to ensure they get the most out of their medicines.
The emphasis will be on reconciliation of patient medication post hospital discharge and clinic attendance, audit work, cost improvement projects and high risk drug monitoring.

Job responsibilities
The following are the core responsibilities of the surgery Pharmacy Technician. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks. This will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels as well as experience:
a. To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team whilst in a supporting function to the clinical pharmacist and other clinicians and within agreed prescribing standard operating procedures
b. To support the clinical pharmacist as the surgery point of contact for all medicines related matters
d. To issue prescriptions in line with agreed clinical protocols and within your competency
e. To encourage cost-effective prescribing throughout the surgery
f. To undertake medicines reconciliation post discharge and on other transfers of care
g. To update and maintain accurate and timely patient medication records on the clinical system, including advice given and action taken
h. To liaise with secondary and primary care colleagues to ensure correct medicines are continued following the transfer of care
i. To monitor practice adherence to the prescribing policy
j. To support virtual and remote models of consultation and support
l. To support the clinical pharmacist in improving the quality and effectiveness of prescribing through clinical audit and education to improve performance against NICE standards, and clinical and prescribing guidance
m. To support the clinical pharmacist in delivering surgery priorities
o. To apply infection-control measures within the practice according to local and national guidelines
p. To identify and be proactive in your training needs and development and as agreed with the Clinical Pharmacist
q. To support in the delivery of enhanced services and other service requirements on behalf of the surgery
r. To participate in the management of patient complaints when requested to do so and participate in the identification of any necessary learning brought about through incidents and near-miss events
s. To actively signpost patients to the correct healthcare professional
t. To undertake all mandatory training and induction programs
u. To contribute to and embrace the spectrum of clinical governance
v. To attend a formal appraisal with their manager at least every 12 months. Once a performance/training objective has been set, progress will be reviewed on a regular basis so that new objectives can be agreed
w. To contribute to public health campaigns (e.g. flu clinics) through advice or direct care
x. To maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times
Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
None- but willing to work towards being accredited as Pharmacy Technician
Desirable
An ability to use the required GP clinical systems (EMIS Web)
Prior experience in general practice is essential for this role
Interpret and request issue of prescriptions accurately
Good written communication skills
Word processing, email, accurate data entry skills
Effectively provide advice to patients regarding medicines
IT literate
Commitment to Continuing Professional Development
