About us

Sidegate is a 3-form-entry primary school in the north of Ipswich with 660 pupils on roll. The school serves a large catchment area with a wide demographic. The school has two Local Authority Specialist Education Units for pupils with a complexity of needs. These units and mainstream combined mean that the school has a higher than average number of pupils on the SEND register.

The school boasts large grounds, an indoor swimming pool, gymnasium and good ICT provision. We pride ourselves on the broad and rich curriculum that we offer to our pupils and our extensive extracurricular activities, which include residential visits in all KS2 year groups. Sidegate is a Platinum Artsmark school and annually achieves the Suffolk School Sports Gold Award. The school received a “Good” Ofsted rating in October 2022. The work of the English Subject Leader will be integral to ensuring that the teaching and learning of the curriculum is of a high standard and that opportunities are maintained and extended even further.

Sidegate became an academy in May 2014 with The Active Learning Trust (ALT). The ALT encourages each of their schools to develop a curriculum that meets the needs of the pupils in the school. They work closely with the school, providing specialist advisory support as necessary. We work closely with other Trust schools in Suffolk and Cambridge. We also have strong links with local schools through pyramid meetings and the Suffolk Learning and Improvement Network.
