About the Organisation

Right now is Manchester's time to shine. This Manchester based University is currently in the planning phase of a major fundraising and engagement campaign, with excitement building as the institution marks its 200th anniversary this year.

Manchester people are different. They share values of integrity, being bold, being ambitious, and being collaborative, as well as a pioneering spirit and the courage to make a difference. You'll join a successful and nurturing Development (Fundraising) team with unrivalled learning and development opportunities and a real sense of team spirit and camaraderie.

About the Philanthropy Manager opportunity

This is a world-leading organisation at the cutting-edge of health research. They're uniquely positioned when it comes to size, scale and scope, working in partnership with the NHS as part of a pioneering integrated healthcare system in Greater Manchester. Through the sharing of knowledge and facilities, they're able to turn scientific discoveries into effective new therapies.

In this Philanthropy Manager role, you'll secure gifts of £50k+ across a range of life-changing priorities spanning students, research, and innovation. You'll act as a translator and conduit for extraordinary research and scientific discoveries to reach donors and supporters who can help get them out into the world. Working closely with colleagues across the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health, you'll help deliver major gifts into priority areas including cancer, neurological conditions and global health.

Day-to-day in this role, you can expect to:

  • Proactively build a pipeline using creative and innovative approaches.
  • Develop effective engagement, cultivation and stewardship plans to deepen prospect relationships.
  • Work closely with colleagues to identify how to deliver extra-special supporter experiences.
  • Help to embed a culture of fundraising at Manchester.

About you

Most importantly of all, you've got exceptional relationship and communication skills, with a talent for developing and stewarding high-value donors.

Whilst there's no doubt we'd be impressed to see a major gifts track record at 6-7 figure level, we're aware that the scale of university fundraising may not directly correlate to the charity and arts sectors. And so, we're keen to encourage applications from a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences.

Here's what you'll need to have in your toolkit:

  • Relationship-led fundraising experience securing high-value gifts or partnerships, considering the overall turnover of previous organisations.
  • Ability to operate effectively as a translator between internal university colleagues and audiences with varied motivations.
  • Emotional intelligence and outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organised, able to work with a diverse pipeline of both warm and cold prospects.
  • Moved by the potential philanthropy has to influence health research and outcomes.

If you have a fearless personality, boundless optimism and a desire to create a healthier, fairer and more sustainable world, we'd love you to get in touch. Please send a copy of your profile or CV to Amelia Lee at Charity People as the first step.
