Job description

As a phlebotomist you are instrumental to maintaining patient's confidence in the healthcare system in their hospital. You will meet a wide variety of patients in different circumstances in order to obtain venous blood samples and/or cannulate them.
We are a small, friendly dynamic team that work together to meet the needs of the trust. No two days are exactly the same and pose challenges to overcome individually and as part of the team.
You can join the team with no previous experience as we support all new staff throughout their training journey, once trained with this specialist skill you will find this job rewarding as you will make a difference to each patient that you meet.
The role of a phlebotomist is to collect blood samples by venepuncture using specialist blood collection equipment from patients in clinical settings. Phlebotomists also assist in the Emergency Department with collection of samples, cultures and cannulation.
The post holder will work as part of a team of phlebotomists to provide efficient, cost-effective and timely clinical services to patients.
You will maintain high professional standards, professional knowledge and competency, undertaking continued professional development.
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) King’s Lynn is located near some of the most beautiful scenery in the UK, along the north Norfolk coast, and not far from Sandringham House.
We provide a comprehensive range of specialist, acute, obstetrics and community-based healthcare services to around 331,000 people across west and north Norfolk, in addition to parts of Breckland, Cambridgeshire and South Lincolnshire.
We have more than 4,000 staff and volunteers, approximately 530 beds, and a helipad for air ambulances. We work with neighbouring hospitals for the provision of tertiary services, including as part of regional partnership and network models of care, such as the trauma network.
In February 2022 the significant progress that has been made at QEH was recognised by the Care Quality Commission who rated the Trust as ‘Good’ in all of the core services they inspected. They recommended the Trust moves out of the recovery support system (formerly special measures).
Please see the attached Job description and Person Specification for more details relevant to the role requirements.
