West Dunbartonshire Council is looking to recruit its next Planning, Building Standards and Environmental Health Manager to provide strategic management of all aspects of the planning, Building Standards and Environmental Health Service. West Dunbartonshire is a leading Scottish Council in its approach to supporting high quality placemaking. It has set up a nationally recognised Place and Design Panel and it is also host authority for the management of the award winning Antonine Wall World Heritage Project.
Located in the West Central Scotland and part of the Glasgow City Region, the West Dunbartonshire area is a great place to live and work. The area includes the main towns of Clydebank, Dumbarton and Alexandria. The area is rich in history shaped by its world famous shipyards, the Kilpatrick Hills, iconic Titan Crane, Dumbarton Rock and Castle and unique waterfront sites and specutular views. The area has much to offer in terms of opportunities for investment, housing and visitor attractions with a dynamic and ambitious Council with a strong vision for the area.
In the last 10 years there has been significant investment and regeneration in the area especially along Clyde Waterfront-Queens Quay, District Heating System, the Council's City Deal Project - Exxon, Marine Technology Park, new private and affordable housing, new schools and there is still more opportunities to unlock.
This is an exciting opportunity for the right person to become part of a dynamic and future focused service who are at the heart of supporting the Council to deliver on its strategic priorities and regeneration sites. The successful candidate should have strong communication skills, able to see the big picture and be able to make effective decisions at a pace.
With a demonstrable track record of success you will have a degree in Planning or a relevant subject and be a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute. The postholder will require to carry out the functions of Chief Planning Officer.Under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989, which introduced restrictions on some posts on the basis of one or more defined criteria, your post has been deemed "politically restricted".
