Our Planning Service is at the heart of shaping Wiltshire's growth and development. We ensure every decision we make promotes high-quality place-shaping, guided by robust policies and best practices in urban design. As a statutory and regulatory service, we play a pivotal role in delivering land for housing and employment aligned with our Local Plan.

We’re embarking on an exciting transformation journey, and we want passionate professionals to join us. Last year, we initiated an ambitious transformation program, backed by a £1 million investment in additional staffing to elevate our services. This is your chance to be part of something big.

Our Strategic Planning Service comprises teams working on exciting projects like reviewing the Local Plan, preparing our Minerals and Waste plans, determining planning applications for minerals and waste developments, supporting our communities to produce Neighbourhood Plans, and measuring the performance of our development plans.

We are recruiting to a range of new positions across the various disciplines which are structured so that employees can progress as they gain more education and experience. The roles offered are: 

Senior Planning Officer: Leading the Way - £40,221 - £42,403 - Role description and person specification

As a Senior Planning Officer, you will drive innovation in planning policy solutions and monitoring systems for our Local Plan and Neighbourhood Plans, working with stakeholders to enhance sustainable development, and mentor junior colleagues to shape the next generation of planners. Ensuring compliance with statutory responsibilities you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping Wiltshire’s communities and future landscape.

Level 2 Planning Officer: Empowering Change - £34,834 - £36,648 – Policy Role description and person specification & Development Management Role description and person specification

As a Level 2 Planning Officer role, you will be involved in impactful projects that transform Wiltshire’s landscape. Specialise in Neighbourhood Planning, Minerals and Waste (both Development Management and Policy roles are available), or Strategic Policy and Monitoring, ensuring compliance and sustainability. Collaborate with diverse teams to implement innovative planning solutions, improving your leadership skills and preparing for senior responsibilities.

Level 1 Planning Officer: Starting the Journey - £29,269 - £31,364 - Role description and person specification

This entry-level role is the perfect opportunity to gaining valuable experience and making a real impact on Wiltshire's future. As a Level 1 Planning Officer focusing on planning policy, you’ll be contributing to key projects on areas such as minerals, waste, employment, housing and renewable energy. Gain experience in creating Neighbourhood Plans and environmental reports while working closely with experienced planners to develop your skills and advance your career.
