Plant & Equipment Manager

This is an opportunity to join a forward-thinking organics company at the forefront of its industry in Ireland and the UK. Our client is looking for a highly skilled and experienced Plant & Equipment Managerwho will play a crucial role in driving continuous improvement and overseeing all equipment and plant machinery across the sites in Belfast & Armagh.

Role Overview:

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Plant & Equipment Manager will be in charge of scheduling and coordinating contractors to handle both reactive and preventative maintenance issues. This role includes maintaining detailed records of all maintenance activities and related costs, monitoring and assessing the operational efficiency of plant and equipment, and advising on specifications and purchasing decisions. Additionally, you will oversee various systems, track expenditures, maintain safety records, and handle other essential tasks for managing repair and maintenance operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive maintenance program for plant and equipment.
  • Analyse, investigate, and report on data related to plant and machinery operation, performance, up time, and downtime.
  • Optimise machinery and plant up time to meet production goals.
  • Manage expenditures and capital requirements within set budgets.
  • Conduct root cause investigations on plant and machinery failures.
  • Build strong professional relationships with stakeholders, suppliers, and the production team.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to procure equipment, providing input on specifications to minimise future repair and maintenance costs. Source parts, consumables, and services within the R&M budget.
  • Maintain administrative records for plant and equipment maintenance.
  • Maintain inventory levels for parts.
  • Schedule and oversee all maintenance activities conducted by subcontractors and suppliers efficiently.
  • Oversee all warranty contracts, including handling warranty claims and disputes.
  • Ensure maintenance and repairs adhere to company Health & Safety standards.
  • Stay updated on innovative equipment and processing solutions.
  • Enhance production output by maximising the up time of plant and equipment.
  • Implement alternative fuel-powered equipment where feasible to reduce the carbon footprint and fuel costs.
  • Maximise operational footprint and site capacity.
  • Aggregate data and apply insights to measure fuel costs, efficiency, machine performance, and operator behaviour.

Knowledge / experience

  • At least 5 years maintenance management experience within a heavy plant maintenance environment
  • Excellent negotiation experience
  • Demonstrate excellent troubleshooting ability, technical knowledge and Root Cause Analysis of Plant and Equipment
  • Possess extensive knowledge of current practices and methods in the plant industry

Skills / ability

  • Negotiation skills
  • Proficient in Excel
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Ability to work safely and adhering to site rules and procedures
  • Full driving license and access to a car as you may be required to travel to multiple NI sites.
