Plant Production Area Leader
York, YO23
Part time (Minimum 28 hours per week) with some seasonal overtime required.
Permanent position
£22,648 pro-rata (based on 37.5 hours FTE). Salary increase is pending confirmation for April 2024 but is expected to be in the region of £25,000 pro-rata.

Brunswick Organic Nursery is a registered charity based in Bishopthorpe, York, which provides a productive and rewarding environment for people with learning disabilities to work in. Our work builds skills and confidence, supports wellbeing and develops independence through offering opportunities in different work areas. These include horticulture (growing plants at our garden nursery, contract gardening service for the local community and growing organic fruit and vegetables), woodwork, office administration, crafts and cooking. We have an exciting opportunity for someone to continue to develop both our Plant Nursery and the opportunities it offers for people who wish to work in it. This role is about both plants and people. We’re looking for someone who thrives on enabling and supporting others to learn and develop in horticulture. You must be able to build genuine connections with the people you work alongside, be able to think holistically about people and take responsibility for the team’s welfare whilst at work.
About the role:
As our Plant Production Area Leader, you'll oversee both Plant Nursery operations and the development of opportunities for our team members. Responsibilities include managing plant production, budgeting, record-keeping, and leading staff.
Key responsibilities include:
Supporting people with learning disabilities to work in our Plant Nursery
Growing a range of high quality plants
Managing plant production within the nursery
Collaborating with management and shop teams
Budgeting management and record-keeping
Ensuring health and safety compliance
Leading and supporting our staff team
The ideal candidate:
We are ideally looking for someone with:
Horticulture qualification or relevant experience
Experience in plant production management
Knowledge of garden plants and growing techniques
Strong leadership and motivational skills
Ability to support individuals with diverse abilities
