Job description

Fastnet Group are recruiting for an IT Trainer and Caseworker on behalf of a fantastic charity who provide a range of services to help greatly improve the lives of disabled people.
This role would suit someone who has worked previously with disabled or socially excluded groups and has excellent working knowledge of the digital landscape and the challenges that come with it.
The role will be a part-time role of 25 hours on a fixed contract till Nov 2024 - based in their Birmingham Centre. Please read further for more details:
Responsible to: Service Manager
Responsible for: Volunteers
* To support disabled people to develop the skills and knowledge to use the internet to access information and activities which combats social isolation and supports their ability to remain independent and connected.
* To increase the confidence and skills of the disabled person to enable them to “go online” to enrich contact with family and friends, and to access information and undertake transactions that will help to maintain their independence.
* To deliver interactive IT training courses/workshops tailored towards very digitally excluded disabled people to help them get “on-line” and access services.
* To work with external agencies/ colleagues to develop solutions reducing the levels of digital exclusion amongst disabled people.
* To work with disabled service users to design and deliver training sessions that meet their needs and requirements.
* To provide a high level of welfare benefit casework including but not limited to appeals, reconsiderations and complex casework.
* To identify and work in partnership with disabled people individually and in small groups to ensure they have the skills and knowledge they need to access the internet for activities and information.
* To deliver fun interactive digital skills workshops in the community.
* Manage and coordinate the IT stock and management of devices used.
* To ensure monitoring systems are in place for recording engagement in digital inclusion activities, including website activity and analytics.
* To collect monitoring information, including outcomes and participation surveys, to enable services and new initiatives to be developed and evaluated
* To ensure digital inclusion workshops and other opportunities are promoted widely and in a timely manner
* To ensure up-to-date relevant information is uploaded to the website linked to community development, digital inclusion, health and well-being, cohesion and resident engagement.
* To promote the service to clients and partner organisations.
* To ensure an adequate and robust referral system is operating for disabled people to receive IT training and support including usage of social media forums.
* To promote the benefits and opportunities of digital inclusion for disabled people.
* To be aware of local digital activities, opportunities and services in order to signpost effectively.
* To manage your own workload, resources and professional development, including attendance at relevant training events and improving your knowledge and understanding of any barriers facing disabled people in the digital programme.
* To ensure all outcomes for the IT/Digital service are consistently met, and raising any potential problems/issues to the Service Manager, in a timely manner.
The post holder will come into contact with vulnerable adults and will therefore be subject to a disclosure check at an enhanced level prior to confirmation of employment.
Person Specification:
- Degree or equivalent qualifications
- NQF Level 3 in Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG)
- Supervisory or management qualification (Desirable)
- Independent Advocacy, Debt or Energy Advice qualification PTTLS Level 3 teacher/training qualification (Desirable)
Experience:
* Demonstrable experience working in an advice /support/legal setting with disabled people or other socially excluded groups
* Proven track record of advocating on behalf of excluded groups, supporting them to achieve positive outcomes in relation to housing, welfare, debt, personal budgets, health, employment, access to statutory services
* Experience of caseload management, including developing and maintaining client case files
* Proven track record of networking and undertaking outreach work
* Experience of working in a multi- faceted role within a small organisation
Knowledge and Skills
* Excellent working knowledge of IT and can identify opportunities to use data in a more effective way for the benefit of DRC
* An excellent understanding of the IT/Digital issues affecting disabled people and/or their families and carers
* A good knowledge and understanding of housing, welfare benefits, personal budgets, education, health and social care legislation and its impact on the rights and entitlements of disabled people
* Communicates clearly and is able to effectively remove barriers to communication
